Meet Weetbix! Aka Bix or Bixie
This fella is the handsomest, cleverest boy, and learns quickly. He has attended 8 weeks of schooling and did really well, improving each week. He absolutely loves being around his hoomans, and is incredibly affectionate and loyal.
Weetbix has possibly had a hard start to life, coming from Mount Isa and having been in the pound since 6 months of age. We are unsure of his life prior to this, but some behaviours he displays might indicate that he didn't have a lot of boundaries to guide him.
After 4 months in Foster care and having completed his heart worm treatment, he now reacts to his name and is playing as a puppy should, wagging his tail lots and chasing his kong and lizards around the yard. He loves his kong the most, but also loves tug of war and chasing water from the hose.
Weetbix does have a few challenging behaviours to be aware of when considering adoption. He is fearful of loud noises including bicycles, motorbikes, scooters, the lawnmower, the blower, whipper snipper and powertools. He will react by barking and running up and down the fence line, or trying to slip out of his halti and run away if he encounters these things outside of his yard. These behaviours can definitely be worked on with training, love and continual reassurance that he is safe. He is very food driven which is helpful when training. Weetbix is still working on his recall, however he is generally well behaved on lead.
Weetbix would be well suited to a family with perhaps a female dog as a companion or a smaller dog, and definitely older children that are familiar with dogs (due to his reactivity to loud noises he wouldn’t suit a house with young children). Ideally he has either a human that’s home a lot or the company of another dog. He has medium energy levels and is not a chewer of things left lying around. He is also hyper vigilant so will make a great guard dog.
Weetbix is above all a beautiful natured dog, who just hasn't had a great start or foundation of training, but as mentioned is quick to learn. Weetbix is looking forward to finally having his very own family, where he can feel relaxed and calm and loved.
If his adopters are willing to work with him and give him his best life, Weetbix will thank them with all the love he has to give.
Weetbix is $350 to adopt and comes desexed, microchipped, C5 vaccinated and given flea, tick and worm preventatives.
