About Akiza
PLEASE NOTE THAT UNFORTUNATELY WE ARE UNABLE TO FLY OUR ANIMALS EITHER WITHIN WA OR INTERSTATE
**Before applying, please remember that adopting a puppy into your home is a huge commitment, and very demanding of your time. Puppies require daily exercise, positive and varied socialisation, grooming, training and playtime. When applying, please consider your work hours, holidays, and how busy your personal life is. Puppies will need someone who is home for most of the day with regular focused input, especially in those first six months after adoption **
NAME: Akiza
BEFORE SAFE ESPERANCE: Came to SAFE Esperance from the pound with her 6 siblings at just a week old. They have all been hand-reared by their awesome foster carers and are now ready to take the next step into their new homes.
BREED: Shar Pei X - the mix with these pups is probably many and varied - we only know that mum had some Shar Pei in her mix.
Shar Pei Traits: originally bred to guard, hunt, herd and fight the Shar Pei is now a companion dog. A calm, independent thinker, sometimes aloof he is a good watch dog and guard dog and devoted to his family. Early training is essential to counter his stubborn strong will and socialisation with humans and dogs must begin early. Due to his short nose he is prone to overheating so needs to be an inside dog.
********************************************************************************
ASSETS: Quiet, cuddly, gentle and playful pretty much sums this gorgeous girl up. She's the quietest girl in the litter and will follow her person from room to room to see what you're up to.
FAVOURITE THINGS: Akiza loves nothing more than being around people for attention and snuggles. She also enjoys playing with her siblings and likes to play with tennis balls. She is a typical puppy with bursts of energy where she plays for a while then settles down with her siblings or person for a snooze before waking up and doing it all over again!
ENDEARING FEATURES: Her gentle and loving nature, and her gorgeous face! She has very good manners around older dogs and seeks out their company.
OTHER ANIMALS: Being a young puppy she will get on well with other friendly dogs after gentle, supervised introductions and we would prefer a home with another gentle youngish dog for her. She could live with a dog-savvy, confident cat, again after gentle introduction.
GENERAL INFO: Akiza will need training for pretty much everything being so young. Housetraining is underway (she knows how to use the doggy door in her foster home) but she still has some way to go to master it. Expect accidents while she's settling into her new home and routine! She'll benefit greatly from puppy school and ongoing classes into adulthood where she can mix with other dogs, and this is a commitment we will expect from her new owner. We expect these pups to be medium sized or just under but there are no guarantees.
ESSENTIALS for Akiza:
** a calm, loving home where someone is there for most of the day especially in the first six months after adoption
** a home where she is treated as part of the family and is allowed to be inside or out as she needs and to sleep inside at night
** a decent sized garden where she can run, play, sniff and explore
** attendance at puppy school and continued training into adulthood for her to learn and grow confidence
** continued positive, gentle exposure and socialisation - essential for any mix of Shar Pei
** Akiza will have bursts of energy while a pup and we envisage will be low to medium energy as an adult dog.
Akiza could live with dog-savvy gentle children over 8 years of age who will play and interact with her but know when to give her space.
