NAME: Blaize

BEFORE RESCUE: Came to SAFE Esperance from the pound after being surrendered.

BREED: Catahoula x Bull Arab x Bloodhound
BREED TRAITS: Catahoula - high energy and tough work dogs, Originally herder/driving dogs they are wary of strangers, protective of family. They need good daily exercise and strong guidance and they will be loving, calm and dedicated companions. The Catahoula needs company so is not an outside dog and requires early, consistent socialisation with both dogs and people. Highly intelligent with training essential.

Bull Arab -strong, loyal and active they were bred to hunt wild pigs. Due to their breed mix these dogs require much early and continuing socialisation with both people and dogs, training and experienced owners. With correct upbringing they can be intensely loyal family dogs with a calm gentle presence. They have a high prey and hunting drive so their outside area needs to be well fenced and they need to be leashed when out.

Bloodhound - originally bred to trail deer and boar, this is a highly active and intelligent breed whose special sense of smell has placed them with law enforcement and search and rescue. They have a sweet, gentle and affectionate nature and are very people and dog friendly. Being an active and intelligent breed with some stubbornness, training is essential or they can be destructive especially as pups. A well fenced yard is an absolute necessity.

ASSETS: He's easy-going, affectionate, friendly, laidback, sensitive, sweet and playful! Blaize is a complete cuddle-bug with a beautiful nature. He has settled beautifully into foster care and is now ready to take the next step into a new home.

FAVOURITE THINGS: You! Blaize loves to be around his people, will be your constant companion and lap up all of the cuddles and affection you can give. He also enjoys getting out and about for a run, playing with other dogs and is a big fan of chew toys. He loves to play with fluffy items that he can chew and throw around.

ENDEARING FEATURES: He has the most beautiful face, very expressive eyes, and a beautiful gentle nature.

OTHER ANIMALS: Blaize gets on well with other dogs and would love another dog for company in his new home. He is untested with cats and small animals so we would prefer a dog-only home for him.

GENERAL INFO: Blaize walks well on the lead, is mostly housetrained (has the odd accident when left alone) and rarely barks. He knows a few commands already and is a clever cookie so training should be a breeze with him, although he does have a stubborn streak and if he doesn't want to listen, he won't! He responds better with affection than treats and would do well with one-on-one training with few distractions. He does like to chew so will need plenty of toys to keep his mind busy.

ESSENTIALS for Blaize:

** A calm, active, loving home with someone who can be there with him for most of the day or can take him with them when out. He gets fearful when voices are raised so a quieter home would be best for him.

** An owner who will dedicate time to training him and take him to classes where he can socialize and learn new things in a safe environment.

** He's an active boy so will need good daily exercise, playtime and mental activity. A family that is willing to involve him in their daily activities is essential for him.

** Blaize needs a fenced, secure yard with grass and interesting things to sniff and explore.

**Blaize loves to be around his people so he needs to be allowed inside the home when you are there and to sleep inside at night, preferably as close to his people as possible!

** Blaize would best suit a home with calm, older children (12+) who will be able to read his signals, or an adult only home. He would love another dog with a similar energy level to live and play with or at the least have regular interaction with other dogs.
