About Benji (imp. 1499)
Benji is a sweet boy who has been in foster care for awhile as he finds the kennel environment quite challenging (understandably). Here are some words from his foster carers:
"Benji has come leaps and bounds since we took him in. He used to jump at loud noises and quick movements and be terrified of people. Now, he tries to say hello to most people on his walks. He is still terrified of the postie though.
He is good with other dogs (as long as they are not too intense) and likes children (as long as they respect his personal space).
He didn’t have any training when we first got him and he had no idea what we were wanting from him. We’ve been working on his training and he knows ‘come’, ‘back’, ‘look‘ (eye contact)and he now responds to his name. We haven’t managed sit, but he lays down when we say sit so we call that a win.
Walking used to be difficult as he would be easily spooked by birds, cars, people. When he would get spooked, he would stop and not start moving again. He now walks normally, knows the command STOP when we get to a road and waits to get told ok before crossing the road.
He is quite stubborn, so getting him to do something he doesn’t want to do takes patience.
We are still having issues with him chewing things he shouldn’t chew (even though he has plenty of toys). So he still has a little way to go."
Benji is a sweet boy who will need an understanding and patient family with good fencing (as he can become flighty when startled).
Medical notes
Benji also has a low grade heart murmur that may require future investigation but at current does not impede his daily life at all and enjoyed long walks with his foster brothers!
