About Dexter
My name is Dexter and I am a nine year old male kelpie. Don’t let my age fool you – I am full of beans. I’m ready for a new start in life where I can be someone’s very own best mate.
Foster Mum calls me the blonde bombshell but I like to think of myself as more of a surfer dude. I love the beach and I love to swim. I also love to play tug and chasey. Don’t ask me to play fetch though – I’m hopeless at that.
If you can give me a new forever home, I can offer you lots in return. I can make you always feel welcome when you come home. I can go for drives with you on outings to keep you company. I can put my head on your lap to tell you that you are loved. I can be your reason to have a daily walk in the great outdoors. I can be your friend and faithful companion, and I will make your house feel like a home.
Let’s be honest – livestock are not the best to have around me although with time I might adjust. I’m really good with cats though. In my foster home I have been spending day time outside very contentedly and at night time I bunker down inside. Foster mum reckons I’d be more than happy to move inside full time if you would like me to be closer to you. I am respectful of the rules and follow direction really well. I am super friendly to every single person who I have met. I’ve slept through the night without the slightest hassle while I’ve been staying here.
Kids are unfamiliar to me but I reckon I’d do really well with older ones. I’m a fairly big lad and it’s quite likely that I’d accidentally knock over those little ones. I’m not posh, but I do consider myself to be above just plain o’ kibble day in, day out. Like Manu says ‘where is the sauce?’ When it comes to other dogs, I just want to be friends with everyone.
I’m a typical kelpie dog, very loyal, determined to be someone’s very own best mate. Ideally, in the midst of a new family that is familiar and confident with dogs like me is where I want to be. I can be a bit of a softie at times, so it’s important that my new family understands my need for reassurance and can give back to me the love and loyalty that I will give to them. I’m an all round sweet guy, so if you’ve read this far, you must be interested. Please enquire about me so that I can get this happy new life happening.

You can also write out your answers and email them to dogs@dogs4jobs.com.au
*Please note, due to the high volume of applications received, we will not respond to Petrescue chat messages, or enquiries to adopt a dog. You must complete our adoptions form to be considered for the dog or pup, and we will respond to this form via our email.
We will then request to complete a yard check, or for you to send in photos of your yard showing the fencing, space, shelter and any hazards etc, to confirm it is safe and secure, as well as adequate space for a working breed dog.
Following this, we will then put you in touch with the dog/s foster carer/s that you are interested in, to chat further over the phone, about whether the dog is a good fit for your family, and vice versa.
