About Archer
If you’re looking for a dog that’s oodles of fun, then this boy might be the dog for you! This spunky man goes by the name of Archer and he is a 25kg standard poodle x golden retriever.
Before we get into all the amazing qualities Archer possesses (and he has many!), he does have some medical needs and will need a wonderful home who will provide him with everything he needs to ensure he lives a long and happy life. Archer unfortunately has bilateral hip dysplasia. At the bottom of his profile we have outlined what he will require in a forever home to help with this, so please only enquire if you are able to provide him with the care outlined. Even though he has hip dysplasia it doesn’t stop him from loving life and with the right management he can continue to enjoy all of life’s wonderful adventures.
Archer is extremely social and just loves everyone he meets. He enjoys cafe trips, beach visits and pub crawls. He is fantastic with children so would happily share his new home with kids of any age, as long as they are dog savvy. He loves nothing more than a cuddle on the couch or a big belly scratch. He looks like a big teddy bear so it’s hard to resist his warm snuggles. He is a goofy, playful boy who lights up any room he walks into.
Archer is also very dog social and is fine with dogs of all sizes and ages. He can pull up a bit sore after a big play of zoomies so if he is to share his home with another dog it is important that his owners can manage playtime to ensure the other resident dog isn’t trying to get him to play too much. He loves running with doggy friends on the beach or snuggling together in bed. He will be fine as an only dog as long as he gets lots of opportunities to have social interactions with other friendly dogs.
This handsome boy is very smart and picks things up quickly. He has a good foundation of basic training, is toilet trained and sleeps through the night. He travels well in a car and is not a barker. He is still a young puppy at heart and if given too much freedom will sometimes be a bit cheeky and find something to chew that he shouldn’t, but he is happy to be crated when not supervised to alleviate this issue. His new owners should be prepared to continue his training as he is still young. He has moderate exercise needs and will need a good daily walk a day to keep him happy. We are looking for a home where someone is home most of the time to help him settle in and get going on his rehab plan for his hips.
Archer is very adaptable and will suit most homes, so our main priority is finding the right home who will go above and beyond to provide the right medical care for him to ensure he can live a very fulfilling life. He will need to be provided a good quality diet and kept lean. He requires regular grooming so this should be factored into expenses and he will need to be allowed inside as part of the family, and provided a warm and Comfy bed to sleep on of a night.
We will be providing more detailed information to potential adopters with regards to his hip dysplasia, but he has had X-rays and been seen by both a vet and a rehabilitation specialist who have given us an outline of what he will need going forward.
His new owners will need to:
-understand what hip dysplasia is
-commit to providing daily joint supplements for life
-provide arthritis injections for life
-commit to an underwater treadmill rehab plan (we can provide lots of details on available options)
-do home exercises daily
-ensure he is always kept lean
-provide him with suitable daily exercise
-ensure his home environment is as equipped as possible to keep him comfortable
Besides his hip dysplasia archer is the most perfect dog a family could ask for, so although it sounds quite extensive what we are hoping for him to find in a forever home, he absolutely deserves the highest quality of care that will maximise his long term outcomes. If you are wanting to make this gorgeous teddy bear a permanent member of your family, please submit an adoption application form and extensively outline your understanding of hip dysplasia, how you plan to provide for his needs and what sort of lifestyle Archer could expect to have living with you.

Don't see a breed attached to one of our dogs? That's because we don't breed label dogs of unknown genetic history. We can't guess at breeds but that's okay, because we can tell you about the dog's individual personality, character, and behaviour.
