About Lady
HOUSEHOLD- Meet lovely Lady! A German Shepard X, who is finally ready to get back out into the big wide world after surprising facility staff with an unexpected litter of pups. She is an intelligent, emotional canine who would best suit an owner who has had previous Shepard experience. She does not cope well in a kennel style environment and would prefer to be in a settled home environment where she can be involved in everyday life as much as possible. She has been friendly to all adults that she meets and whilst she has never shown any concerning behaviours towards younger children she would be best suited to children 12yrs + because she is a larger boisterous girl and may knock smaller children over accidently. Her anxiety behaviours displayed in the kennel environment must also be mentioned and are most likely just environmentally related but any new owners will need to be aware that it could also be a breed related trait and she may need extra time or support at home to settle in. Lady has required abit more time than most in the facility and has found it abit stressful so she is now more than ready to fly the coop and find a permanent loving home.
ON-GOING TRAINING- Lady is a highly intelligent girl and can already perform many basic obedience tasks such as Sit, Stay, Drop, and Shake. She has also displayed good basic recall on a long lead and is food motivated and interactive when prompted by a handler. She would benefit greatly from on-going obedience training for the amazing extra mental stimulation it provides.
ON LEAD- Lady can be strong on lead and pull when over excited or anxious. She has responded well to a head halti in the past and with some time away from the facility and training we are sure her lead manners will improve greatly.
PLAY/TOYS- Lady happily interacts with a variety of toys and handler interaction for play. She can become abit jumpy when excited but will settle if requested by the handler. She would benefit greatly from games at home in the backyard and challenges such as learning the names of her toys or hide/seek style games where she has to think rather than just relying on instinct e.g fetch/chase games.
OTHER DOGS- Lady still requires on-going dog socialisation but has improved since being away from her pups. She was a very protective mother and appeared anti social but, since being away from them she has settled. She can still be abit selective of her canine companions and is more than happy to tell another dog off if they are too boisterous and in her face, she appears to have a decent understanding of basic dog social skills and with an experienced owner who will offer her a calm reintroduction to the world she will continue to improve away from the facility. She is not currently suitable for a dog beach/park lifestyle and may never be, only time will tell.
CATS/OTHER ANIMALS- Lady found our facility cattery abit overwhelming. She was very cautious to enter the area and after a very quick look around, she chose to leave of her own accord. While no aggression or concerning behaviours were displayed we cannot guarantee that she is suitable to live with cats or smaller pets and a discussion at the time of adoption application will need to be had to determine suitability. Further testing at the facility will be conducted to gauge her behaviours over time.
CAR RIDES- Lady will enter and exit a car with minimal fuss. Whilst she is very excited to be out on an adventure she will still listen and appears to enjoy the wind in her face. A secure harness is required or she does try to move around the car but once settled she travels well.
CARE/GROOMING- Lady’s coat will require regular grooming and maintenance. She does allow basic grooming but does not love the whole experience. With some time and training she may grow to enjoy the experience more but some work will need to be put towards it.
EXERCISE/NUTRITION- Due to her stress levels in a kennel environment and the high energy demand of feeding her pups Lady is currently on a Puppy based diet to help her gain and maintain a good weight range. She is naturally a lean dog and will require an owner who is aware of her bodies needs and monitors weight changes throughout her life. She is high energy and loves to get out for a good walk/run 1-2 times daily or as regularly as she is allowed! When relaxed, she will happily laze in the sun and would cope with a game or two in the backyard.
