Ava - 9 Month Old Staffy X (On Trial)

Meet Ava, a gorgeous 9 month old Staffy cross puppy. Ava has the typical staffy personality – friendly, affectionate and bubbly. Ava will grow into a medium sized dog.

Ava loves to be with people and she is very cuddly. When she sees people she wags her tail non-stop and she often rolls over onto her back asking for a pat on the belly. She is happiest when she’s cuddled up to people and receiving pats.

Ava is crate trained and sleeps through the night quietly in her crate. She is also toilet trained. Ava is fine to be left in the backyard during the day while her new owner is at work. At her foster home she’s been happy to explore the background by herself and she is quiet when left outside.

Ava is the sort of dog who needs to be let inside when her owner is home so she can feel part of the family and be with people.

Ava knows how to sit however she still needs training on essential skills such as ‘wait’, ‘stay’. She walks well on the leash but she is not ready to be let off leash at parks/ beaches as she does not yet have recall. She will need solid recall training before let off the leash. As Ava is still young, she tends to jump up on people to say hi. Her foster carers are working on this and she is learning that she only gets attention when all 4 paws are on the ground. This will need to be continued in her new home.

Ava enjoys playing with other dogs. Ava can get overexcited when paired with energetic and playful dogs which is why we recommend a home for her where she’s with a mature dog who can show her how to be calm, attentive and polite. In other words, a good canine role model. She would also be fine in a home where she’s the only dog.

Ava’s forever home will need to be committed to ongoing training with Ava. She would ideally like to have a walk every day but as long as she’s welcomed inside when the family is home and involved in her new family’s life, she will be happy. Since Ava is still learning not to jump up, a home with children over the age of 8 is needed. Ava's new home will need good fencing that is at least 4ft tall with no small gaps.
