About Lola
PLEASE NOTE THAT UNFORTUNATELY WE ARE UNABLE TO FLY OUR ANIMALS EITHER WITHIN WA OR INTERSTATE
NAME: Lola
BEFORE SAFE ESPERANCE: Mum Sally, and pups came to SAFE Esperance after she gave birth in the pound.
BREED: American Bulldog X
American Bulldog breed traits - bred for work on farms they are agile and muscular. They are intelligent and affectionate with family which makes them a protective family dog but they also have high exercise requirements so need an active home and a big fenced back yard. They do not like to be left alone for long periods and can be destructive if their physical and mental needs aren't met. They are also a sensitive dog that takes things to heart and needs a gentle hand. This breed requires early socialisation with both dogs and people and patient training - an experienced dog savvy owner is a must.

ASSETS: Easygoing, affectionate. Smart, friendly, obedient, sweet and playful just about sums up Lola! She loves to be around people and adores attention.
FAVOURITE THINGS: Lola is a typical puppy with bursts of energy where she will play then will settle down for a snooze before waking up and doing it all over again. Her favourite toy at the moment is a squeaky toy which she adores, and she loves to get out and about for walks, play fetch with her people and spend time playing with other dogs.
ENDEARING FEATURES: She's great with everyone she meets and is a confident little girl.
OTHER ANIMALS: Being so young still she will get on well with other friendly dogs after gentle, supervised introduction and would love a home with either another youngish dog to play with, or at the least a home where she gets to meet other dogs on a regular basis. She could probably live with a dog-savvy, confident cat, again after gentle introduction.
GENERAL INFO: Lola will need continued training as still a puppy. She's a smart cookie and picks up new things fairly easily. She is now housetrained but cannot be left inside too long, so gentle reinforcement will be needed in her new home. She rarely barks, is learning some commands in her foster home and will benefit greatly from puppy school and ongoing classes into adulthood where she can mix with other dogs. This is a commitment we will expect from her new owner. She loves her walks and is doing well with her lead work.
MEDICAL CONDITION: Lola has been diagnosed to have caudal sternal pectus excavatum (sternum malformation) and a slightly enlarged right atrium of the heart. A specialist referral revealed that the malformed sternum is cosmetic and does not impact her clinically and the enlarged right atrium needs to be monitored regularly but does not cause concern at this time. We can discuss this diagnosis with interested parties.
ESSENTIALS for Lola:
** a loving home where someone is there with her for most of the day or can take her with them when they leave the house.
** a home where she is treated as part of the family and is allowed to be inside or out as she needs and to sleep inside at night
** a good-sized garden where she can run, play, sniff and explore
** attendance at puppy school and continued training into adulthood for her to learn and grow in confidence
** continued positive, gentle exposure and socialisation
** Lola will be medium to high energy as an adult dog.
Lola could live with dog-savvy gentle older children who will play and interact with her but know when to give her space.
