About Atticus
🏡 our gentle boy Atticus is adoption ready - Brisbane area
Microchip No: 981098106342603
My name is Atticus, I'm just a big fan of all things love and peace. My carer calls me smoosh. I am a big, sleepy gentle giant who is around 5 years old.
I know paw, sit, down (I do need some hand gestures sometimes) and I'm learning stay (I get confused if I'm on a leash). I am good with ta and leave it, though sometimes I get confused if we are playing tug of war! But I understand if you need to take things away from me or even if I have to take my tablets- close handling is A-OK by me!
I can walk well on a leash with a harness but I get a little too excited if I see another dog walking towards us! I'm pretty strong so I'll need an owner who knows how to handle my tugging. I'm just ready to make friends. Once I say hello to other dogs, I'm perfectly happy to hang out alongside them and I don't mind sharing toys, food, beds or even my people!
I do love people too. I will bark once to let you know if there is a stranger lingering about but I've learned that the neighbours are ok, so I don't mind when I see them hanging out and I don't mind other dogs barking around the place. I've been living in a townhouse with a low fence, I'm no escape artist and essentially a big couch potato, but a bigger yard and a walk at least once a day would be great for my mental and physical wellbeing!
I have socialised with other dogs and I do ok, but more experience would teach me to better mind my manners when on a leash. I have seen cats and they are curious to me but I'm still a little too excitable so slow, controlled introductions would be best. Kids don't bother me but I do forget my size so might be best to keep little ones away so I don't accidentally knock them over when I go for hugs.
Things that make me nervous: cars driving too close and busy roads and sometimes men in high vis. I can settle and self soothe pretty quickly, but I could use some confidence.
I am currently receiving heartworm medication because I am heartworm positive. This means I need a month of daily medication and a once every month dosage of Advantage to keep away those pesky pests. I have a broken canine tooth that the vet says is dead but it doesn't cause me any pain so they recommended I keep it. I have been desexed and vaccinated.
I don't get destructive when left on my own, but I do looooove to shred my toys. More please! Soft toys are my favourite and if I'm anxious or frustrated I'll pick one up and go calm myself right down!
I can be left inside for a few hours at a time, but I will have accidents if left for too long. Sometimes I can get anxious (particularly with rain) so my carer gives me lots of enrichment feeders and bones so I keep busy and that keeps me calm and quiet. She can work up to 12 hours away and I do ok! Changes still make me nervous so routine would be really useful to help me settle in. I do need a walk and some cuddling time after time apart to reconnect with you and feel safe.
I'm looking for a soft place to lay my head. Is your lap ok?
