About Bear & Marley
Bear & Marley are up for adoption as a bonded pair.
They follow each other around and will sleep together. Marley looks to Bear for reassurance licking his face, she is usually the one to initiate play. Bear plays the protector role and looks out for Marley. Initially they would wee in their foster carer’s house but as time has progressed, they are learning that toileting is for outside and rarely toilet in the house now as long as they are shown where they need to do their business.
They will need to be groomed on a regular basis, their fur was matted to the skin when they were found. They both did really when they were professionally groomed. They are both fine with being brushed or having their faces cleaned.
Once they have bonded with you, they will follow you around, come in for cuddles, offer you their tummy and give you lots of licks and love in return. They love nothing more than laying close to their favourite people. They love going for walks. They will mostly greet other dogs happily but at times, Bear can be protective (growling / barking) so he needs to be pulled up on this.
Marley is 7 years old but she has lots of sprite in her still! She is always coming up for cuddles and pats, and if you let her she would love to sleep on your lap. She loves to lick Bear’s face and is usually the one to cuddle up to him when they are snoozing. She can also be feisty when she’s had enough of Bear and will certainly let him know!
Bear is 11 years old and you could call him the grumpy old man, but once he has bonded to you he is very loveable, he loves cuddles and pats and would love to sit in your lap if you let him. He can be grumpy and will growl and nip if he feels threatened, so his family will need to be assertive and show him that they are the boss and he doesn’t need to be anymore. He does struggle to get in to the car and does not like being picked up, so having some sort of doggy ramp would likely work well for this situation (although he will tolerate being picked up to go in the car once he trusts you). He is overweight and initially struggled walking but with a daily walk and routine, he is starting to look a lot healthier!
Their foster carer has an older cat, and although they haven’t had much to do with the cat, they tolerate her and leave her alone.
Overall, Bear and Marley are an older bonded pair and although there are some issues, they are quick to let you in if you show them love, consistency and assertiveness. Once you have established trust with them, they are super loveable and would love to be by your side forever.
Do you think that you’re the right human for Bear & Marley? If so, we’d love to hear from you.
