About Chess
Hi! I'm Chess, As my name suggests, I'm a distinguished gentleman. I enjoy the peace and quiet my own company brings. My foster carers take care of me. They feed me and I endure their affections from time to time, however, I'm quite content to be left to my own devices. Whenever they gave me medicine (I had an embarrassing episode of mites), I would try to remove their hands from me with my small paws. They, of course, thought this was funny. Their human minds could not understand that someone of my diminutive size should also be treated with dignity. How dare they force me to take medicine against my will! I regularly push their hands with my head to assert myself when they insist on cuddle time. Honestly, the things I must endure. Yes, my coat is a thing of beauty. The rich, red lustre attracts my carers with 'ooohs' and 'ahs'. It is not my fault I was born so handsome. I do believe I would find happiness with a quiet and calm household. Perhaps someone I could play an intelligent game of chess with.
What say thee?
Just like all guinea pigs I love to bury myself under leaves and vegetation. I love tunnels too. I eat a variety of foods - I’m still trying to decide on my favourites but fresh greens every day are a must. We need to be fed twice a day and our diet also includes hay, pellets and washed fruit and veges.
We’re a bit more heat tolerant than rabbits. At the moment, in the heat of the Pilbara, I go into a safe outdoor cage in the late afternoons with leaves to play and burrow in. During the day I am inside the house where it's cooler.
What else will I need to be happy? A gnawing block, a brush once or twice a week, fresh water in a metal spouted drip bottle and my own sleeping area - with a cover on top. Guinea pigs need their home cleaned every day and their bedding changed every week. We can live for up to ten years. And we make great pets for gentle children.
