About Shadow
Shadow is looking for a quiet home with an older couple or single person that can help him learn how to trust people again.
**Shadow is also looking for a foster home**
Shadow was rescued from a situation where he was forced to live in a bird cage outside for some time. When his rescuer went to pick him up he was terrified and climbing and jumping all through the cage, leaving us to expect that he was undomesticated and would require a long period of rehabilitation. He was taken to a vet clinic for medical attention, and over the next few days at the clinic it became clear that Shadow was actually domesticated and a very sweet, shy boy! Shadow has gotten to know the nurses quite well and has enjoyed a lot of quiet cuddles with them. He is frightened of sudden movements and loud people, but when he knows that he is safe and can trust you he turns in to a total snuggle bug.
Shadow has tested positive for Feline Leukaemia Virus (FeLV) which is a retrovirus that weakens a cats immune system. It is not contagious to other species, however it can spread through saliva and nasal secretions to other cats, so Shadow requires a home without other cats, or with other cats that are FeLV positive. Cats diagnosed with FeLV can live normal, happy lives though their life expectancy is decreased. Any illness needs to be promptly addressed to ensure their ongoing health.
Name: Shadow (FeLV+) MC00969
Date of Birth: 01/01/2013
Gender: Male
Suburb: Aveley
Adoption Fee: $0
Shadow has been sterilised and microchipped. Shadow will receive his vaccinations and dental care in the near future, with all expenses covered by The Mad Catters Inc. As Shadow has tested positive for FeLV, he does not have an adoption fee, though standard adoption procedures do apply.
Medical Note:
Shadow has tested positive for FeLV (Feline Leukaemia Virus) which is a viral disease that can interfere with the immune system and cause cancer. Many cats will live for a few years without showing signs of illness, though their life expectancy is much lower than cats without FeLV after diagnosis. Owners of cats that are FeLV positive should pay close attention to signs of illness and seek veterinary treatment early to prevent a worsening condition and discomfort. Good nutrition, regular parasite treatments and vaccination can help to prevent other illness from developing.
Important: FeLV positive cats must be kept indoors to prevent spreading the virus which is usually transmitted through saliva and nasal secretions. This also prevents them from acquiring other illness and disease. To eliminate the risk of FeLV transferring to other cats, TMC Inc. will only adopt FeLV+ cats to homes without cats, or homes that already have an FeLV+ cat.
If you would like to arrange a meet and greet with Shadow, please fill in the adoption application: https://madcattersinc.formstack.com/forms/adoption_application or email madcattersrescue@outlook.com.au for more information.
