About Archer
****************************PLEASE APPLY AT www.gsrv.com.au ****************************
Handsome Archer is almost 5 years old and is looking for a home due to no fault of his own. Archer’s owner passed away last year, and Archer was left absolutely devastated, he was taken in by family members who tried to do the right thing by giving him a home, but with their own dogs to care for and declining health, they have asked us to help Archer find a home where he will get the care he needs.
Archer’s previous owner was an elderly woman, so he didn’t get out as much as a young shepherd should, since he has been in this current home, he has rarely been taken for walks or experienced life outside of his home. During our assessment, we found Archer to be very friendly towards our volunteer and able to take treats and perform a few commands, he seemed a little cautious unsure of himself out walking, clearly not having seen the outside world for quite some time.
Archer will need a patient owner that is willing to slowly expose him to walks and adventures, he is not suited to being walked in busy, built up areas and will need to go slowly at his own pace. Archer knows his basic commands and enjoys a treat, when handled by a confident person, he took direction well and his confidence was instantly boosted.
Archer currently lives with other dogs in his home and is great with them, however he has not been introduced to a new dog in a very long time, he struggles when he comes face to face with a new dog up close and will lash out at them. For now, we believe Archer would do best in a single dog home so that he can slowly be exposed to other dogs and build up positive associations with them over time, he is not reactive from a distance, but up close, he is very unsure.
Archer has also lived with cats, however, has never been left alone without supervision, his current owner thinks he would chase them if given the chance. If Archer is to live with cats again, slow introductions would need to take place and supervision at all times, permanent separation may be required if they do not get along.
Archer is very friendly with people, his favourite activities include being brushed and patted, (especially bum scratches), cuddling on the bed and playing with squeaky toys. Archer has had limited exposure to children but is a mostly sensible boy that could easily be integrated into a home with children over the age of 5 that have experience living with large breed dogs.
Archer has had his world turned upside down after losing his owner, now he is looking for a patient and understanding human to call his own who can give him unconditional love, someone that can give him the life that all dogs deserve that he has been desperately craving.

Adoption details
We offer a 'Foster to Adopt' program. This means that the dog will go to live with their adoptive family for 4 weeks to ensure it is the perfect match for both the dog and new family. After the 4 weeks is complete, if all has gone well, the adoption is formalised and your new doggy companion is officially yours!
If you are interested in adopting from us, we ask that you fill out the Adoption Application form on our website (via the link provided below) with as much detail as possible, including the name of the dog you are interested in.
We do not rehome female dogs to a home where there is an existing female dog. Whilst there are always exceptions, it is generally unwise to have two females together; two males can sort it out, a male and a female can sort it out, but when two females fight, the results can be disastrous. For this reason, following the advice from numerous Veterinary behaviourists, as well as our own experience from the last eight years, we do not rehome females into homes with other female dogs.
All of our dogs are de-sexed, vaccinated, microchipped, flea and worm treated
