About Big Boy
PLEASE NOTE THAT UNFORTUNATELY WE ARE UNABLE TO FLY OUR ANIMALS EITHER WITHIN WA OR INTERSTATE
NAME: Big Boy - 15.6kgs (long body with short legs)
BEFORE RESCUE: Came to SAFE Esperance after surrender to the pound.
BREED: Border Collie x Jack Russell
BREED TRAITS: Border Collies were originally bred to herd sheep they are a sensitive breed that needs company. Affectionate with family and people friendly. Highly intelligent and easy to train they need plenty of exercise and mental stimulation - they are not cuddly couch potatoes and need a job. They will herd anything that moves such as children, cars, bikes etc. They need an active owner, not a novice owner.
Jack Russells are lively, independent and clever. They are trainable but have a mind of their own and if bored can dig and chew. Jack Russells are devoted to their people, affectionate and love being with them so cannot be left for long periods. They can exhibit 'small dog syndrome' unless well socialised so may be reactive to larger dogs which can get them into trouble if not monitored. Careful and sensitive socialisation from a young age is a must.

ASSETS: He's affectionate, loving and playful! Big Boy loves human company and is always happy to be around you. He can get protective when new men come into the home but after gentle introduction he settles down and relaxes around them.
FAVOURITE THINGS: Big Boy loves human company and is always happy to be with you. He loves to play on the beach and have a little swim then play with a ball.
ENDEARING FEATURES: He has a loyal and loving nature, sticks like glue and just loves to be loved.
OTHER ANIMALS: He can be excitable around other male dogs although, if they are his size, he is more accepting - he has been good in the company of females. He is untested with cats and small animals so we won't rehome him with those for their safety.
GENERAL INFO: Big Boy needs training on how to walk nicely on his lead. He is housetrained and rarely barks. He doesn't particularly like to be left alone and will chew things (her is still a pup) so his new owner will need some good chew toys to keep him occupied. He needs good secure fencing as he will initially try to follow you when you leave the house and has been known to get over lower fences even with his short legs! He knows a few commands already and is a clever cookie so training should be a breeze with him. He travels well in the car and loves to get out and about. He enjoys going to the beach and will swim if his carer goes in with him. He can also be distracted by birds on the beach and will chase them if given the opportunity - his recall needs work.
ESSENTIALS for Big Boy:
** An active, loving home with someone who can be there with him for most of the day ie works from home or retired, or can take him with them when they leave the house.
** An owner who will dedicate time to training him and take him to classes where he can socialize and learn new things in a safe environment.
** He's an active boy so will need good daily exercise, playtime and mental activity. An active home that is willing to involve him in daily activities is essential for him.
** Big Boy needs a well fenced, secure yard with grass and interesting things to sniff and explore.
**Big Boy loves to be with his people so he needs to be allowed inside the home when you are there and to sleep inside at night, preferably as close to his people as possible!
** Big Boy would best suit a home with older children (12+) who will be able to read his signals, or an adult only home. He could live with another dog with a similar energy level dependent on meet or have regular interaction with other dogs but would be happy just being a best buddy.
If Big Boy sounds like the perfect fit for your family, please send an enquiry and we'll be in touch soon.
