About Lexi
PLEASE NOTE THAT WE DO NOT FLY OUR ANIMALS THROUGHOUT WA OR INTERSTATE
NAME: Lexi
BEFORE RESCUE: Came to SAFE Esperance from the pound
BREED: Kelpie x German Shepherd
BREED TRAITS: Kelpies are high energy and highly intelligent being a working breed, so may need to be found a 'job' to make them feel fulfilled. They get bored easily if their brains are not worked, so training is a must. They are very social with adults and children and social with other dogs. They are very loyal but if the instinct is strong they may try to herd your children.
German Shepherds were originally bred to herd flocks all day, they are intelligent, high energy and need a lot of mental activity and exercise, or is likely to chew and bark, obedience training is a must. German Shepherds make devoted family pets and courageous protectors - early exposure and socialisation will make them more accepting of different people and circumstances. They love to be with their humans so if left alone for long periods can become anxious. They have quite a high prey drive.
*********************************************************************************************
ASSETS: She's easy going, affectionate, friendly, obedient, active, sweet and playful! She's a complete cuddle bug and it's a joy to have her around!
FAVOURITE THINGS: Lexi loves to have her people nearby! She's never happier than when she's curled up next to her person for a cuddle and a snooze. She gets on wonderfully with other dogs and loves to run around and play with them. She travels well in the car, enjoys bush walks and beach visits and enjoys a swim in the ocean. She has a rabbit teddy that she loves to chew and she adores tummy rubs!
ENDEARING FEATURES: She is very well behaved, has a loyal and loving nature and just loves to be loved. She's also really smart too so training should be a breeze for her!
OTHER ANIMALS: She gets on well with other friendly dogs and loves their company. She could live with another friendly dog after gentle, supervised introduction. She could also live with a dog-savvy cat after gentle introduction.
GENERAL INFO: Lexi is still training on the lead so we will need her new owner to continue with this. She's fairly strong and gets a bit excitable when she meets other dogs so a front tether lead would be a great option for her. She is housetrained but can wet a little if really excited, like when you come home from work, but we expect this to gradually settle. She rarely barks and her command training is coming along well. She isn't a fan of being left alone for long periods of time and will chew things, so will need plenty of chew toys to keep her occupied or an owner around more often than not. She is still very much a puppy and will do puppy things!
ESSENTIALS for Lexi:
** An active, loving home with someone who can be there with her for most of the day on a permanent basis or can take her with them when they leave the house.
** An owner who will dedicate time to training her and take her to classes where she can socialize and learn new things in a safe environment.
** She is high energy so will need good daily exercise, playtime and mental activity. An active home that is willing to involve her in daily activities is essential for her.
** Lexi needs a fenced, secure yard with grass and interesting things to sniff and explore.
** Lexi loves to be with her people so she needs to be allowed inside the home when you are there and to sleep inside at night, preferably as close to her people as possible!
** Lexi would best suit most homes although we would prefer children to be older (8+) who are able to read her signals. She would love another dog with a similar energy level to live and play with or at least have regular interaction with other dogs.
