About Bear
PLEASE NOTE THAT UNFORTUNATELY WE ARE UNABLE TO FLY OUR ANIMALS EITHER WITHIN WA OR INTERSTATE
NAME: Bear
BEFORE RESCUE: Came to SAFE Esperance from the pound.
BREED: Mixed breed – we don’t know Bear’s heritage, but she will have several breeds in her mix but most probably some Heeler in there.
*****************************************************************************************
ASSETS: Affectionate, devoted, eager to please, friendly, confident, and sweet. She barks and growls initially when people come to the house but once you are introduced she’s very friendly. She absolutely loves to be around her people and is loving and devoted.
FAVOURITE THINGS: Bear loves to have her people nearby! She’s never happier than when she’s curled up next to her person for a cuddle and a snooze. She also loves to go out for walks and runs and loves to be in the car. She does snap at cars going by but is getting better at remaining calm.
ENDEARING FEATURES: She has a loyal and loving nature and just loves to be loved. She puts her paws on you when she wants attention and is very sensitive to your moods and the energy around the house. She’ll make you feel like you’re the most special and loved person in the world.
OTHER ANIMALS: Bear can get a bit jealous around new dogs initially and be a little pushy, annoying and dominant to them but once she knows them she is very accepting. She does want to play but will nip at legs and try to control the game so she needs an owner who will be firm with her, so she understands what is and isn’t acceptable – she has improved a lot whilst in care. She could live with another friendly dog after gentle, supervised introduction. She is too interested in poultry and chases birds, but she has lived happily with a cat.
GENERAL INFO: Bear is still training on the lead but is now much more relaxed and responsive and just occasionally needs a reminder to heel. Her training has been going well and she has learned several commands. She is housetrained and will bark when someone is at the door. She guards her toys and food from new dogs but once she knows the dog she is accepting although may try to steel their food. She has been very overweight for quite some time which has taken a toll on her joints so she is on a strict diet to get her to a healthier weight which is improving her mobility. She doesn’t like stormy weather so will need to be kept safe and secure inside. She is also fearful of raised voices and will cower. Bear’s recall is good and she will stay close to you when off lead.
ESSENTIALS for Bear:
** A loving, calm home with someone who can be with her for most of the day with possibly a doggy friend to keep her company or play with regularly as long as clear boundaries are set.
** An owner who will dedicate time to continue with her training and provide structure and security.
** Bear was overweight for years so her diet will need to be monitored. She has a medium activity level so will need gentle exercise, playtime and mental activity. She would benefit from joint support and exercise that avoided jumping or pressure on her joints. She currently has gentle daily walks of 4-5km.
** Bear needs a secure yard, and if in a busy pedestrian area, with no access to the front as she may bark in protective mode.
Bear loves to be with her people so she needs to be allowed inside the home when you are there and to sleep inside at night, preferably as close to her people as possible!
Bear could live with dog savvy children over 6yrs of age who will treat her respectfully, or an adult only home.
If Bear sounds like the perfect fit for your family, please send an enquiry and we’ll be in touch soon.
