Tito the super sausage is pretty much what you would expect in a dachshund who embraces the typical breed traits. He is cuddly, wriggly, adventurous, stubborn, loyal, curious and can be a bit of an a-hole. He will try and stretch his way onto a lap for royal pandering at most opportunities.
This guy is a barrel of laughs (and a standard sized barrel to boot) and will keep you on your toes. He makes his foster carer giggle and give exasperated sighs within minutes of each other. It is clear he has had zero effort put in whilst growing up and so everything is brand spanking new to him, he is like a clueless puppy. He has made amazing progress in a short time though and the world is his for the taking with the right leader.
Meeting new dogs? Getting better, but loves a good poke and takes a scientific approach using cause and effect methods. Generally scared initially until he susses them out.
Dogs on the street? Depends, if a dog barks at him he tends to tuck his tail, if they get him by surprise he may bark at them at pretend to be a big scary monster.
Cats? Initially barked at the strange creatures, now just wants to chase and poke. The cats do not appreciate his style and they have recommended no cats in his home.
Kids? Given his lack of socialisation and stubborn/bossy streak, it's a big no thanks to kids, for your own sanity.
Housetraining? Forget it, I pee where I want he says.
Meeting new people? Huge improvement in this area. On arrival into foster care he was super timid and anxious, once given time to find his feet and have his head stop spinning he suddenly decided people were ok servants and were handy to jump on and they do give amazing ear rubs. He is a bit picky with who he chooses to like, he may bark at some and not at others.
Being left alone? Hates it, but has been improving. Will still sing to alert the neighbourhood of your abandonment at times. Will redecorate by moving items in the yard and his bed to his standards, he doesn't accept the humans love of calm and tidy. Environments should apparently be a bit more chaotic and abstract.
If you are experienced and familiar with the quirks and delights of a dachshund and accept that Tito is who he is (and that training is strongly recommended but may only get you so far and he will push boundaries) then please, by all means, apply! He actually is a lovely fella, his antics will be sure to both entertain and be eye roll worthy. I promise you will never be bored or lonely with Tito in your life.
