Meet Max, a young active, high energy male Jack Russell Terrier Cross. He loves to play with other dogs of a similar age and energy. Given that he is still a young dog, he loves to play with his toys and enjoys mental stimulation but this needs to be monitored as it can become too much for him. He has days when he is calmer and more content and, as he matures this is likely to be more consistent. Max loves the company of people and will sleep happily on your lap when he chooses.
He walks quite well on a leash with his harness and is becoming more confident with the different sounds. He is semi toilet trained and, as he was previously an outside dog, was not given the opportunity to learn but he is a smart dog and he should master this in no time. He sleeps well in an inside crate from 10.30pm - 6.30am and does not wake in the night.
Max is wary of strangers and dark shadows and shapes he can’t figure out and there are some noises that frighten him such as the sound of rumbling cars. He will sometimes bark at visitors until he feels safe. Max sometimes cowers when he thinks he is in trouble so being sensitive to this is important. He has, however, become more confident around different sounds and noises and is better at managing his environment.
When we visited Max he showed resistance to walking outside his property. He was happy to be carried, placed on the ground, and investigate, but we suspect he hasn’t been out and about much in his life to date. He didn’t seem scared, just didn’t want to do this. We are sure his time in foster care with other dogs will begin to unlearn these behaviours.
Max would benefit from being rehomed with a family who have the experience to help train him and understand his needs as he requires guidance and further training. He knows basic commands and learns quickly. He would love another dog like himself or a dog that can be his mentor and ideally a yard where he can use up his energy as he is very inquisitive. He would not suit a home with an older dog as he is too energetic. He is untested with cats.
This precious soul has so much love to give. Do you have the love and understanding to help him be the amazing dog he is just waiting to be?
Please note: our dogs are not available for interstate adoption. We also do not adopt to people under the age of 25 years.

All our dogs are desexed, C5 vaccinated with intranasal, microchipped, wormed, and flea treated. All necessary vetwork such as dentals, surgery, eye treatment are also carried out. We are no longer heartworm testing as we have not had one positive test since we began in 2006. If a dog comes to us on heartworm treatment this is continued.

Adoption details
We are a community fostercare network, not a shelter, and our dogs and cats are cared for in private homes. Note that we are very careful where we rehome our dogs and cats and we have an intensive process. If you want a quick turnaround we are not the group for you. If you seem like a good match for the dog of your choice we will organise a telephone chat, a meet and greet and a property check. We offer free assistance for six weeks for any issues, a lifetime takeback policy with full refund of the adoption fee, and will always be available to offer advice.
We care for our dogs and cats and we want you to as well. We know that genuine applicants have no trouble with this process and understand that if we refuse you a dog or cat, it is because you are not the best match for that pet.
Our commitment to the dogs and cats in our care is total and we treat each one as if we are passing on a family pet. This may not suit you so we point out that there are equally great dogs and cats available in pounds, shelters and with other rescue groups.
