Hi! I'm Poppy and I'm looking for a new family to call my own.

NOTE: You are unable to meet Poppy until/unless you have been notified that you are a successful applicant. An adoption cannot be approved unless you are able to come to the shelter to meet Poppy in person and bring any dogs you currently have with you.


What I need in my new home:
• Daily walks, trips to the park or beach, playtime in the backyard
• I have never interacted with another dog before coming into the shelter so I can be unsure of how to behave around and with them! I will require a lot of positive socialisation with other dogs so that my behaviour improves and not deteriorates towards them but in the mean time I will need to be an ONLY DOG until I can learn some manners.
• Little kids that are accustomed to big bouncy dogs would be fine but I may accidentally knock little ones over.
• Further training with basic doggie manners
• To be allowed inside with my family
• Secure Fencing (6ft Colorbond or equivalent)
• Lots of toys and mental stimulation
• Lots of love and attention
• I have lots of energy so an active family is a must
• group socialisation classes would be highly beneficial for me.
• TRAINING TRAINING TRAINING. It's ESSENTIAL I receive training in all aspects of my life so I can be the best dog I can be.

Things that I don't want in my new home:
• To be left alone in the backyard without any interaction
• Not to be allowed inside with my family
• Never to go on a walk or rides in the car
• Other dogs - I require more posative socialisation and training before living with another dog.
• Cats or small animals as I may find them fun to chase

My best features:
• Very playful
• Wiggle butt
• I can sit, shake hands.
• I love attention and having snuggles with my humans
• I am clever and eager to learn so would love a family who will teach me some cool tricks.
• I LOVE toys, playing fetch and a game of tug-o-war
• I love attention, hugs, kisses & head scratches
• Love to snooze on the couch
• Exuberant & full of beans

Where I need to improve / Training required
• I can be a bit bouncy -training should stop this
• I can be strong on the lead - training and walking me in a halti or harness may stop this
• I do walk quite well on the lead once settled, however I can pull if something interests me and can be quite skittish if startled so walking in a harness is recommended.
• I am unsure on how to interact with other dogs and this can be triggering for other dogs so I will require lots of positive interactions and training with other dogs so I learn to play and interact appropriately.
