About Checkers
They say good things come in small packages and Checkers is no exception! She is so adorable with her little legs and puppy dog eyes. Checkers loves her foster family and showers them in affection. She will never say no to some good cuddles and is often their little shadow following them around. When meeting new people, she can be a bit shy and need some time and gentle words to win over her affections. However, she will actively avoid men and children as she is a bit fearful of them. She has never shown aggression, but she is clearly uncomfortable. Potential adopters need to be aware that she would not bond quickly with men.
While in foster care, Checkers has been living with 2 other friendly dogs. She enjoys their company and having play time with them. Checkers is also happy to meet other dogs out and about and make them new friends. She is still a young girl and will need ongoing positive socialisation experiences during her development in the form of regular playdates with known friendly dogs or pack walks on lead. Although she is a small mixed breed and expected to not reach 15kg, she will still need daily exercise and mental stimulation to keep her healthy and happy throughout her life. Checkers is also currently living with a cat in her foster home so will be ok to live with dog friendly felines in her new home.
Checkers has progressed really well with her basic training. She is a smart girl and knowns sit, stay and waits for her food. She is also walking well on lead with a harness, is crate trained and toilet trained. After initially being a little unsettled, Checkers rides well in the car and settles to travel quietly. Checkers has come from a rural property in remote NSW so had had no exposure to the world prior to coming into foster care. Her new owner will need to be committed to continuing her training and exposure to the world in order to build her confidence when out and about. Checkers would benefit from formal sessions with a trainer and/or new owners that have previous experience with timid dogs and confidence building training.
We are looking for a dog experienced home for Checkers where she will be a part of the family and included in the daily activities. She will need a home with another friendly and well-trained dog who can be a good role model for her. Checkers will need to be allowed inside to be with the family and will need a warm comfy bed inside to sleep on at night. She is looking for a quiet adult only home where she will have structure and guidance to help her grow. Checkers is going to bring a lot of happiness and joy to her new owners and will blossom in the right environment.
If you would like to make this gorgeous little girl a part of your family, then please complete a Dog Adoption Enquiry form on the Fetching Dogs website as the first step. Please include plenty of details in your application about your prior experience with timid dogs and your current dog.

Don't see a breed attached to one of our dogs? That's because we don't breed label dogs of unknown genetic history. We can't guess at breeds but that's okay, because we can tell you about the dog's individual personality, character, and behaviour.
