Sweet Sam

Hi Everyone, It's a pleasure to meet you all
My Name is Sweet Sam but Sam for short and I am now seeking my new forever home so i'd like to tell you all about myself.
I am an 8- 1/2 year old Great Dane x, with a beautiful brown/black coat with a unique striped hyena pattern.Im a big boy weighing in at 40kg. I'm definitely a big gentle giant who would love to be your couch potato.

Sam loves to follow his family wherever they go, whether it is going out to enjoy walks, going for a drive in the car or at home, he loves to be by his owners side.
Sam is friendly to people and has no concerns with receiving cuddles and pats from anyone who wants to say hello.
Around the home he loves to carry around his favorite toy, whether it be a squeaky footy, or soft squeaky teddy. Sam shows his excitement by bringing his favorite toy to you - showing he wants to play, wagging his tail (like a whip) and bottom ever so energetically.
He is happy to chill during the day whilst we work, mostly sleeping on the sofa. Although does enjoy time outside sunbaking on the grass or playing with his squeaky chew toys.
He is quite respectful to others, considering his size, and doesn't jump up on people or try to lick their face. He does love his food though, so would typically hover around where people are eating, hoping to catch a nibble of any food that comes his way.
He enjoys his scratches and pats, and will reach out with his paw to shake hands

My favorite things are
Loves chew toys/ football, he will run around with his toys and bring them back, although will want you to chase him - usually indicated by a few barks (talk) at you to let you know he is ready to play.
Loves his cuddles, and will sit next to you when chilling on the sofa.
Enjoys walks around the parks, visiting dog parks for socialization
Enjoys interacting with people and calm dogs
Human Interaction
He is a very calm dog who doesn't get overly excited and/or jump around when meeting new people and is friendly and respectful even with children around. Will approach to say hello and for a welcome pat and is well mannered.
Has not had much exposure yet to large crowds. Has no issues with small groups of people outside of shops etc. Is curious and wants to say hi to most people that walk past.
Is happy to sit and chill whilst at the coffee shop
Obedience
Walking on a lead is okay, needs a little bit of work. With his size, he does tend to pull if he smells something interesting nearby as he is a bit of a sticky beak lol
Loves going for drives in the car, just chills and lies down for the trip or hangs his head out the window
Is friendly to other dogs, waiting for them to greet him - he has show signs of dominance to other dogs, due to his size - he may play rough
Will generally listen to sit/stay commands whilst using treats
Understands what his harness is for and happily puts his head into it ready to go!!
Has a tendency to bark when left alone. He appears to have some separation anxiety - once settled outside he is fine - just takes some work to reassure.
When outside, may bark at other dogs or unfamiliar noises
Animal Social Skills
Have met other dogs - is quite friendly
Playful with all types of dogs small and large, may become defensive with aggressive dogs - by barking and displaying his dominance.
He has not met any cats, so am unsure how he would be with them
Has seen a possum and wanted to chase it so guesign cats are out lol
Food
Is not to picky, eats dry food and loves his Prime 100
Will eat the dog roll fresh and polish it off and then clean up the dry food. Typically will finish off the bowl in a sitting
Loves treats (peanut butter biscuits / dog treat beef jerky)
Independance
When alone, has spent his time in the backyard under cover. Does show some annoyance of being alone by a few barks but does settle
Loves toys and treat toys to entertain him while we are out
Has not destroyed any plants or furniture and have seen him snoozing on the grass in the sun and on the sofa
Will use his paw to knock / tap on the door to be let in and may whimper briefly until he is let inside.

Bathing & Hygiene
Enjoys his bath, we have taken him to the dog bath booths at Pet Barn - he enjoys the whole experience from Shampoo to Rinse. We avoided the blow dry as the noise seemed to startle him
We recommend you provide him with treats to distract whilst bathing
Fur is short and doesn't seem to shed
Likes to roll around in the grass and pick up all of the lovely smells - will likely need regular baths
Sleeping
Sleeps in a room with a sofa/blanket inside
Sleeps all the way through the night from 10pm - 7am (no toilet breaks required)
Settles really well, will happily settle once its bed time.
Doesn't cry/bark when settling, or during the night
Exercise
Enjoys his walk, or playing in the backyard. Currently enjoying 2 walks a day at around 30+ mins each.
I like to spend time socializing with other dogs.
Loves playing chase with toys in the backyard
Inside the home
Is toilet trained
Does jump onto the sofa, although is not destructive - has not chewed any furniture / shoes / clothes etc
Enjoys chilling on the sofa
Does not like loud noises, hair dryer - will become frightened
Can go up and down stairs
We haven’t let him up on or sleep on beds
Medical Issues
Sweet Sam has a few small things his new family need to be aware of
We have had the following tested and the results are as follows
SweetSam has a small lump on the front paw and a sample was sent away and tested. This was benign
Sma has a few lumps near his backside , Again a sample was taken and sent away and returned benign results
Sam has a small lump on back leg. Again sample was taken and no concerns
We have java not surgically removed these lumps as they are not bothering him and not deemed as a medical issue
Sweet Sam has a grade ½ slight heart murmur which is not chasing him any issues and no medical or medication is required
Ideal Home
Preferably with someone who is around home / working from home most of the time for company
Would recommend a family with a decent size backyard where his new family have time to play and walk on a regular basis
A home with secure fencing and shade and shelter
Would likely be best suited to an only dog hom, with social visits from time to time to build up his confidence and obedience in general
Children with dog experience and/or over 10 years old - would need to be monitored, purely due to his size
No cats in the home
A home that can love him and treat him as a part of the family that he so much deserves
