About Dixie
Hi guys, it’s me Dixie. A lot of you know my story already. I came into BVAR care with my elderly brother Diesel after we were dumped in a regional pound by our ‘owner’. Diesel and I were able to spend a beautiful two weeks together in our loving foster home before he passed away, so now I am looking for a special home to call my own. Now that introductions are done, let me tell you a bit about me to see if you might be the right family for me.
I am looking for an experienced owner that understands the cattle dog breed and our needs. I would thrive in a home with plenty of opportunities for exercise and mental stimulation. Despite my traumatic past, I am very affectionate and loving towards my humans, including little ones. I am gentle and sweet with children however constant supervision is always a must for dogs and kids.
I currently live with several other dogs with minimal issues. I show a lot of cattle dog traits when I play, such as mouthing and herding, so the other dog in my home must be very friendly and understanding. I am by no means aggressive, but some dogs don’t like when I mouth or nip playfully. I do need proper introductions to any dog I meet and may not be suitable for dog parks, however I have proven to happily co-live with other canine friends.
If you have chickens and cats that’s great for you but not so great for me. Again, my cattle instincts kick in and I get just that little bit too curious around these tiny and feathery creatures. If we can be kept separate that would work but I must be allowed inside the home to snuggle as it’s one of my favourite things.
I am well behaved around food, have excellent manners and love my crate inside. I like to protect my family and will bark at strangers, birds and bikes – you name it. You will know you are safe with me around.
I would do well as an only dog, as long as someone was home more often than not. Maybe you work from home or are retired? I’d love to get to know you a bit better. I haven’t shown any anxiety but with my rough past I deserve to have someone around to give me the love I deserve.
Oh, one last thing. Yes, I only have one eye. My old ‘owner’ kicked me so hard so that’s why its missing. So my depth perception is a little off but it hardly has an impact on my every day life. You wouldn’t even believe that I was 7 years old I am still so full of live and energy.
My first seven years of life weren’t the best, and I definitely deserve to be treated like a princess for the rest of my days. I hope I found that special home soon. Love Dixie
