About Maggie
ay hi to lovely Maggie! A two-year-old kelpie x border collie girl who is looking for her forever home.
Maggie has always been loved but has lacked the active, stimulating life a working dog needs. She has been learning lots of new skills while in care and her canine foster siblings have been teaching her how to speak ‘dog’! Her ideal home would be with a family who either work from home or can take her with them wherever they go. Maggie love, love, LOVES people so a home who will treat her as part of the family, allow her to sleep inside and include her in their everyday lives is a must.
Maggie has a super sweet nature – she instantly loves everyone she meets and will happily follow you around all day - if she is near a human, she is in doggy heaven! She is a super affectionate, happy girl and is always up for a cuddle. She is still learning about personal space and can be bouncy when getting attention, but she has been working on her calmness and is making lots of progress! Maggie always does her best to be a good girl - she needs a family who are committed to her ongoing training and will continue to work on her calmness. Crate training has been essential for Maggie and her new family would need to continue this training - experience would be helpful but not essential.
Maggie is house trained, sleeps quietly in her crate at night and is past the puppy chewing stage. She has learnt that her crate is the perfect space to chillax and will happily go into her crate during the day when she needs a bit of calmness. She walks well on the lead and does not react to other dogs but cats and livestock are novel for her and she is still learning they are none of her business. Maggie responds well to verbal cues, has good recall and values being near her human.
Maggie gets along well with all her foster dog friends her own size - she is curious around little dogs which can be overwhelming for them. She would do well with another balanced, well socialised dog similar to her who is up for a bit of rough and tumble but would also suit a single dog home where she can get all the cuddles and meet up with fur-friends. Maggie can become over excited quite quickly which is something she is working on - although she is dog friendly, dog parks/beaches would need to be introduced gradually. We do not believe Maggie would be suited to a home with cats or livestock. (unless her new family are experienced with training 'none of your business' and willing to put in the hard yards - she is definitely worth it!)
If you can offer Maggie the support of a fairly chilled life with loads of love and affection, this gorgeous girl would make someone a truly wonderful and loving best friend.
