About Flynn
PLEASE NOTE THAT UNFORTUNATELY WE ARE UNABLE TO FLY OUR ANIMALS EITHER WITHIN WA OR INTERSTATE
NAME: Flynn
BEFORE RESCUE: Came to SAFE Esperance after being abandoned. He's settling beautifully into foster care and is loving his new life.
BREED: Affenpinscher x Terrier
BREED TRAITS: Affenpinscher - originally bred as ratters they are now companion dogs although they have retained their feisty nature. They adore their humans but they don't take well to rough play, chasing or being held without freedom to move so don't do well with children. Once bonded they are loving, loyal and protective. They do not like being left alone but are generally dog friendly so a companion dog would suit them. They are smart and eager to please but can be stubborn so patience is required with training. A big personality in a small body.
Terrier - they come in all shapes and sizes and were bred for different reasons, but mainly farm work or ratting. Today they are companions. Terriers are generally high energy, very bright and quick to learn but can be stubborn. They have strong personalities and a sense of fun and want to be included in everything you do. Don't take on a terrier unless you really do want a companion.
ASSETS: Due to his difficult beginnings Flynn is anxious and fearful of new people initially but is friendly once he's comfortable in his surroundings. He's affectionate, devoted, eager to please, active, and very sweet. He hasn't had the best start in life but has a ton of love to give to his new family if they're prepared to give him time and patience.
FAVOURITE THINGS: Flynn loves to play with other dogs and enjoys a variety of toys, including rope toys. He loves to be with his people and will follow you everywhere, just wanting to be close to you.
ENDEARING FEATURES: His scruffy fur and that very cute face!
OTHER ANIMALS: He gets on well with other friendly dogs and loves their company. He could live with another friendly dog after gentle, supervised introduction. He will need a home with no cats or small animals as, due to his breed, he isn't a fan of them and will chase.
GENERAL INFO: Flynn will need training on the lead as he hasn't had any experience of walking on lead but is slowly getting used to having a lead attached. He is housetrained and will bark when someone is at the door. He's learning a few commands, is a clever boy and is quick to pick new things up, so with time and patience dedicated training should be a breeze for him.
ESSENTIALS for Flynn:
** A child free, quiet, active, loving home with someone who can be there with him for most of the day on a permanent basis or can take him with them when they leave the house. He won't cope well with lots of people coming and going to the home.
** An owner who will dedicate time to training him and take him to classes once he's settled in, where he can socialize and learn new things in a safe environment.
** He's an active boy so will need good daily exercise, playtime and mental activity. An active home that is willing to involve him in daily activities is essential for him.
** Flynn needs a fenced, secure yard with grass and interesting things to sniff and explore.
** Flynn loves to be with his people, so he needs to be allowed inside the home when you are there and to sleep inside at night, preferably as close to his people as possible!
** Flynn is still learning to lose his fear of people so, if anxious or fearful and pushed beyond his capacity, he can bite so he will need a home with adults only who will be able to pick up on his signals and give him space when he's feeling distressed.
**He would love another dog with a similar energy level to live and play with.
Flynn has come from a sad place, and really deserves the chance of a good and loving life. He longs to be someone's best friend and his home will need to be dog experienced and understanding. If Flynn sounds like the perfect fit for your family, please send an enquiry and we'll be in touch soon.
