About Teddy
Hiya Everyone, I’m Teddy! Are you my new peeps?
Here’s what I need!
I need a family who wants me in their life and their house. Don’t stick me outside and leave me there. I want some teenage kids, the more the better because their job is to play with me. A lot! Everyday. I want a big yard to run around like mad and play fetch. And I want balls, balls, and lots of balls. Occasionally a soft toy or two. That’s it. I don’t think that’s too much to ask for, is it?
Teddy Bio:
Teddy is an 18m old Groodle, recently desexed and in very good health. He’s a big Groodle at 29kg with potentially still some filling out to do. Teddy loves to run and play and is ball obsessed so he is looking for a family who will play with him, love him, train him, and include him. He is a big boy new to learning household manners, so a family who will continue reinforcing his good manners is essential.
A nice big yard is also a must, as multiple daily fetch sessions are on the cards, but make sure that you are not treasuring an immaculate garden – Teddy is not deliberately destructive at all, but he is like a bulldozer when he’s after the ball and no people or plants are gonna stop him from getting his ball. He’s the perfect fetch dog, bringing the ball fully back and relinquishing it without being asked because he knows that you are going to throw it again and again. You may actually have to enforce some rest-time, so he doesn’t overdo it.
Please don’t apply if you live in a unit, townhouse or flat. No offence, but walks are not going to cut it.
Teddy is best suited to a family with older kids, ideally teenagers and up, simply because he’s likely to barrel into little ones, though not on purpose. He would not be difficult to control around visiting little kids but on a day-to-day basis, older kids would be ideal so long as they are confident around a boisterous young dog. He is not generally a jumper but can forget himself in his excitement.
Whilst Teddy is dog friendly, we are seeking a single dog home for him for two reasons.
Firstly, he does not especially need or want dog company, though he’s happily in a multiple-dog foster home, it’s the humans that he wants to connect with and play with. The other dogs are tolerated but not his focus. You’ll be his focus. Secondly, Teddy has shown some possessive behaviours around toys, never aimed at humans, but aimed at other dogs if they try to join in on the game. He has no desire for them to participate, it’s all about him.
For this reason, the dog park is not the best place for Teddy. He would happily pinch another dog’s ball (learning not to but not great at it yet) but would not tolerate another dog pinching his ball or toy. He’s shown the tendency to get a bit narky if another dog gets in his face, though has not followed through on more than this. He would play with another boisterous dog, but he has no sense of when he should stop, and can be too rough or too persistent.
Additionally, he is learning recall but does not yet come reliably when called, so the best place for Teddy is plenty of games in his backyard with his peeps and plenty of on-lead walks. He loves his walks and is getting pretty good at not pulling on the lead. He would love to go on some adventures or hikes once his fitness increases.
Teddy is cat friendly and could live with a confident cat who doesn’t mind living with a curious bulldozer.
In order to adopt Teddy, you must also be prepared to have him at the groomer every 8 weeks to keep his coat in top condition and you must be prepared for brushing in between these visits. He did well for our groomer and gave her no problems so this should not pose an issue for a dedicated owner and quality groomer.
So, if you think that you fit the bill, please ask for an application form and we’ll send one to you. Please be patient and understanding – we know that he is going to be very popular and only one applicant can be chosen.
(Hint Hint: if you submit an application full of one-line answers you will not be shortlisted – don’t make us work hard to understand why you are the best applicant!)
Medical notes
Teddy has a history of minor seasonal irritations that saw him licking and chewing himself so he might need seasonal help with allergic responses. He also sometimes presents with soft stools - plenty of quality bones in his diet have taken care of that issue whilst in foster care.
