About Kia
AVAILABLE NOW
Looking for adoption, foster, or foster with a view to adoption (all the possibilities! 😊)
Beautiful mature girl Kia is ready to kick-start the new chapter of her life.
She's roughly 8 years old and is medium sized mixed breed, with some red heeler among other breeds!
You've seen her face before, though we're thrilled to say that Kia is happier and healthier than ever.
This lovable girl is a real homebody and will suit someone who is looking for a relatively low-energy companion (though it's worth noting that when she does go for walks, she can occasionally pull on the lead so needs someone with at least a relative amount of strength to walk her).
Her current foster carers take her for brief daily walks to the park across the road and whilst she enjoys the fresh air and the sniffs, she's always excited to head home.
Kia didn't have nice experiences in her previous life. She wasn't an inside dog but now she loves the creature comforts of a soft bed of her own to sleep on and she loves to hop in bed with her foster dad for a cuddle in the morning.
She was emaciated when she came into care with sunken eyes, a dull coat and several uncomfortable growths hanging from her body.
Kia had not been sterilised and is believed to have had multiple litters in the past; these factors contributed to her developing a potentially deadly condition called pyometra, requiring urgent surgery.
Since this operation, she has improved so much - with a soft and glossy coat, she is finally filling out in her weight too.
Kia lived with another dog before but they were starving and had to fight for food.
Although she's friendly with some dogs she meets in the park, Kia is looking for a home where she's the only dog and she doesn't have to compete for anything.
She's also not suited to living with cats or small pets.
Kia took some time to trust her foster carers and open up to them but now that she has, she's so incredibly sweet and they just adore her.
It's a great joy and privilege to gain the trust and friendship of a dog like Kia who has known only hardship in her life.
Due to the past traumas Kia has experienced, she is currently taking anti-anxiety tablets each day. These keep her feeling relaxed and happy
Once she's settled in a loving home, she may be able to wean off these meds though it's also possible she'll need to remain on them.
Kia would ideally suit older people, or just anyway looking for a friendly, mostly low maintenance and calm dog.
Oh, Kia doesn't really like baths - she tolerates the process but doesn't talk to you for the rest of the day after the procedure! 🛁
Kia's foster family need to move her on by the 5th of March due to other commitments of their own so we are desperate to get her a new place ASAP.
That could be a temporary placement or an adoption, the options are open.
Kia is now desexed, microchipped and vaccinated and her adoption fee is $480
Fostering is FREE
