At 28 kilos and clearly her breed standard Marble will be a larger girl at full growth and we are absolute seeking a breed experienced home for her to ensure she receives the experience needed to own an Akita

Marble the great, also known as Mar-bella, Marbelicious and Marbs often seen snoozing in places where no dog has snoozed before, in positions only seen on funniest home videos.

Marble has settled in very well with her foster family. She always greets the family with a tail wag when she has been left alone during the day. She is an absolute delight to cuddle with due to her amazing fluffy coat and she likes to be engaged in playing with toys. When it is time to play she brings out the big guns and turns up the heat making every play time an intense experience for all those games enough to participate. She loves active play with other dogs.

Marble is an adorable goofy puppy who flops around totally unaware of her size relative to other dogs or humans but still knows when to bring the energy down.

Favorite things -

Marble has a lot of typical energy and will play with toys on her own but loves getting out for walks or playing with other dogs. She also likes to just laze around when it’s warm. She is pretty fond of water too.

Interaction with humans -

Marble is very protective of her foster humans. She will at times bark when new people come through the door or knock/ring the bell. She usually settles quite quickly when reassured by her humans that these people are safe/friends. This sometimes extends to the children in the foster home if they enter a room unannounced and she is startled.

Marble has been fantastic with the children in her foster family and some of their friends (ages 6-10) but due to her size, when she is overly excited, she has knocked them over unintentionally. As Marble is still a puppy she can be quite mouthy when playing and nibble on people/things. She responds well when being corrected however this has frightened some children.

Marble does get excited to meet new people but is usually well behaved. She has responded well when on a walk to all people who have wanted to pat her and she has a sniff then enjoys the extra attention.

Marble is showing signs of real intelligence. She is very well behaved. She can sit, drop and stay. She does try to test these boundaries at times. While out for a walk if she gets tired, she is harder to convince. She is also trying to “shake”. Marble likes to chase balls and usually returns them and will release them on a “give” command. Marble shows beautiful manners when coming inside and waits until she is “free” to enter the house or eat at meal times.

Most of Marble’s car travel has been in the rear of an SUV. She needs assistance getting in but sits nice and quietly while traveling and waits to be “free” before she gets out of the car when opening the tailgate.

Marble is still mastering her walking on a lead. She sits when instructed at most corner/crossings but she does still pull a bit on the lead. When she gets overly excited or sees another dog, she does pull quite hard and reasonable strength is required to control her.

Animal Social Skills -

Marble has only seen neighborhood cats through the window or in passing and has shown a lot of interest to play, she has not been properly tested with cats.

Marble has played with a few dogs since being in foster care. Marble is completely unaware of her size and as a result can sometimes frighten smaller dogs. She has played nicely with pugs, poodles, bulldog x staffy and golden retrievers. Marble likes to chase other dogs, they are often quite mouthy with each other, they also play tug of war with toys and when other dogs become submissive and lay down, Marble usually just lays on top of them. The dogs then relax together to catch their breath before starting all over again.

So far, Marble has only really barked in response to other dogs barking at her and usually she is wagging her tail and wants to play.

Marble is very fascinated with birds and given the opportunity, would chase them.

Marble is predominantly eating Savour Life puppy dry food. She is fed twice daily and usually finishes her meal but paces herself, she is not a guts. She does enjoy snacks hidden in her toys throughout the day and the occasional treat while out for a walk and training.

Independence -

Marble has a range of toys including Kongs, tennis balls, ropes to play tug with and squeak toys. Marble likes to laze around but does need stimulation. On days where she has been left alone for long periods without having been walked or played with, she has tried to dig up a few potted plants. Marble needs daily walks/dog plays.

Bathing and Hygiene -

Marble has not yet been bathed however, she is quite keen on water and let herself into the shower with her foster mum where she tried eating the water as it came out of the tap.

Sleeping -

Marble spent her first few nights sleeping on her bed in her foster parents room. Since then Marble has demonstrated at times she prefers to sleep outside. Marble likes the cold hard floor (including tiled bathrooms) and often seeks out a quiet dark corner. She sleeps where she wants but has not climbed on couches or beds unless invited to do so.

Exercise -

Marble needs walking at least once daily for 30 min-1hr. She usually likes to do her business a few times on the walk too.

Inside the home -

Marble spends most of her time relaxing around the house sleeping anywhere from hard floors to soft rugs. When overly excited she does lots of “zoomies”. Marble is still mastering stairs in the house and can be a little clumsy and need encouragement going up or down. She has recently become more confident and explores the home freely without needing anyone else. She does not hang around the table waiting for food at meal times.

Marble is mostly toilet trained but is still teaching her humans her cues of when she needs to go out. When taken outside other than when requested by her, she will usually “toilet” on command. Marble needs lots of attention/stimulation to stop her being destructive. A great range of toys and a decent walk daily are essential for her.

Marble ideally needs someone who can give her lots of time and attention as she continues to grow and learn. Marble would not be suited to a small backyard due to her size and need to expel energy. Due to her size and her lack of understanding of that, she would be better suited to households without small children. Marble enjoys being inside just to be near her foster family, so having her as a backyard ornament would not be suitable. Marble loves to be greeted with cuddles from her foster mum after hours apart. Marble is relatively high energy and needs a family that can commit to daily exercise with Marble. She is really a sweetheart that loves and wants to be loved. The family who adopts Marble will be a very lucky family.

ADOPTION CRITERIA

Marble needs a large yard with secure fencing. Grass to play on and shade and shelter from the elements

A breed experienced home is essential due to her breed

If another dog in residence we seek a very well socialized Desexed Male who is playful and can tolerant a young dog

As we have not tested her with cats . No Cats

A home that will allow her to be an inside / outside dog

A home that will continue her training to ensure she matures into the best dog she can be

Children in the home are fine BUT they must be dog savvy and confident with dogs
