About Jasper
PLEASE NOTE THAT UNFORTUNATELY WE ARE UNABLE TO FLY OUR ANIMALS EITHER WITHIN WA OR INTERSTATE
NAME: Jasper
BEFORE RESCUE: Came to SAFE Esperance after being abandoned. He's settled beautifully into foster care and is loving his new life!
BREED: Jack Russell x Chihuahua
BREED TRAITS: Jack Russells are lively, independent and clever. They are trainable but have a mind of their own and if bored can dig and chew. Terriers are devoted to their people, affectionate and love being with them so cannot be left for long periods. Jack Russells need to be well socialised or can be reactive to unknown or larger dogs which can get them into trouble if not monitored. Careful and sensitive socialisation from a young age is a must.
Chihuahuas love to be with their people and are definitely companion dogs that do not like to be left alone, They are sensitive, but should not be overindulged. They love their family but can be aloof or wary of strangers and other dogs so early socialisation is very important. As they have very little body fat they cannot tolerate cold or hot weather so need a coat or to be inside. They are bright and wilful but will learn if you make it fun so don't dismiss a Chihuahua just because it is cute!
***************************************************************
ASSETS: He's a little shy initially but is friendly within minutes. Easy-going, affectionate, eager to please, friendly, sweet and playful. He's a beautifully natured boy who hasn't had the best start in life but has a ton of love to give to his new family.
FAVOURITE THINGS: Jasper loves attention! He's never happier than when he's curled up on someone's lap for a snooze and a belly or chin rub. He also has a special love for the insides of toilet rolls and will chew them to pieces! He likes to play with tennis balls and rope toys and enjoys playing on the mini trampoline in his foster home.
ENDEARING FEATURES: He has a loyal and loving nature and just loves to be loved. He also has the most enormous ears!
OTHER ANIMALS: He gets on well with other friendly dogs and loves their company. He could live with another friendly dog after gentle, supervised introduction. There are birds is his foster home and he's curious about them but doesn't show any signs of wanting to hurt them.
GENERAL INFO: Jasper needs some training on the lead as he pulls strongly at present. His foster carer has tried him on a harness which is a little better for him. He is nearly there with his housetraining and will need routine and consistency for him to master his toileting. Expect a couple of accidents while he's settling in! He will bark to get attention or if someone is at the door but soon settles down again. He digs in the sand in his foster carers garden and loves to chew, so will need plenty of chew toys to keep him busy. He knows his name and is very obedient, so with some daily dedicated training it should be a breeze for him.
ESSENTIALS for Jasper:
** An active, loving home with someone who can be there with him for most of the day on a permanent basis or can take him with them when they leave the house.
** An owner who will dedicate time to training him and take him to classes where he can socialize and learn new things in a safe environment.
** He's an active boy so will need good daily exercise, playtime and mental activity. An active home that is willing to involve him in daily activities is essential for him.
** Jasper needs a fenced, secure yard with grass and interesting things to sniff and explore.
** Jasper loves to be with his people so he needs to be allowed inside the home when you are there and to sleep inside at night, preferably as close to his people as possible!
** Jasper can nip a little when excited so we would prefer a home with older children or an adult only home. He would love another dog with a similar energy level to live and play with.
