Profile and needs in a home
Calling all Whippet enthusiasts!!
Hi! My name is Huey, and I'm a 10 month old whippet!
I'm super sweet and like any self-respecting Whippet love cuddles:)
In my previous home I did not get any socialisation outside the house or with other people so I am very timid in new situations.
My carer Joanne and her Whippet Patrick have been helping me to take baby steps in the last four weeks or so to introduce me to some of the world and I am doing well but still need some time in new situations.
I will therefore need a patient and kind owner who will continue to take small steps with me in quieter areas so as not to overwhelm me and undo the progress that I have made to date.
I'm looking for a home with another confident and kind sighthound or other smaller breed who can be my best mate. The kind of hound that will let me share the dinner bowl sometimes and snuggle together in the same bed.
Like all whippets, I love hanging on the couch and in beds and I need to be permitted to sleep in your bedroom as this is where I sleep in my foster home. I have a bed on the floor next to my foster brother Patrick who is also a Whippet like me:) Patrick and I also like to cuddle on the bed from time to time.
I need someone with breed experience who can give me time and positive force-free reinforcement to build my confidence. If you work from home or are retired that would be even better!
I am looking for adopters who are looking for a dog to truly be part of the family, access inside at all times, daily adventures in quieter areas making sure not to overwhelm me, exercise, mental stimulation, consistent force-free training, and of course lots of love and attention!
My wonderful foster carer Joanne and Patrick have been teaching me how to dog and I am very comfortable and playful now in the home environment.
I am currently learning to walk on the lead - I can be a bit stop-start at times, but with their help, I'm getting more confident every day!
I have mastered the dog door, and I am house trained, of course your home will be a new environment so you will have to set me up to succeed with this, advice can be provided if needed.
I'm not a city slicker and would not suit apartment life- I am terrified of the lift! So, a quieter area residential area or an area out of the city with lots of quiet parks with walking paths would be best fit for me.
I will need a backyard (with access inside at all times) to run around in or even better, a secure acreage property with sighthound proof fencing:)
I have met horses and chickens and don't bark or chase them. I've met some kids recently and we got along fine but children over the age of 14 would be better if there were children in the family as I can get overwhelmed easily.
I am great in the car and always ready to get in the car even if we are just walking:)
If you would like to meet Huey please send us as much detail as possible on yourself and the home you are able to provide including your location, contact number, your other pets (if any), family members, lifestyle, exercise and mental stimulation you will provide, how often Huey would be alone, where he will have access in the home, where Huey would go if you went away and could not take him with you, ability to cover vet expenses and any other information you wish to provide.
