A message from Otto

I love nothing more than laying on the couch or in bed next to my human and getting scritches behind my ears. I’m an old gentleman with the grey beard to prove it. My favourite foods are peanut butter and sardines. My favourite activities are car rides, wading in rivers and running along ocean shores, and searching for exciting new scents on my daily walkies.

About Otto

Otto is a beautiful, cuddly 9-year-old boy. He is completely toilet-trained, and adept at spending time on his own. Otto is very independent and can happily spend 8+ hours a day alone as long as he has snackies, water and his favourite toys. He is a perfect dog for full-time workers who want someone to snuggle up with in the evenings and on weekends. Being inside and nearby people is his favourite thing though, and having a backyard isn’t important to him as long as he gets at least a short walk every day to do his business. If you have a backyard with exposed dirt or tanbark, he will be very interested in digging himself a little dirt bed to lay in.
He is getting older and doesn’t have the stamina for long walks anymore, especially in warmer weather, and is content with a 10 to 20-minute walk once or twice a day to take in the local scents and wee on his favourite trees. He likes to bounce around and do zoomies in the backyard or in the house for when you get home from work or wherever you’ve been, but other than that he doesn’t have much energy for playing anymore. He likes roly-polies on the carpet and will offer his tummy up for scratches when he’s feeling comfortable with you. Otto knows a few commands including wait, sit, stay, eat, and go to bed.
Otto is very sweet and affectionate. If he’s ever feeling lonely, he’ll let you know by nuzzling your arm or leg and asking you to give him some pats. He is usually content to sit in his bed and watch the world go by, but he does like to be in eyeshot of whoever is in the house. His ideal family will be happy to set up a comfy spot in their lounge room for his bed during the day, and for him to share their couch for cuddles and snoozes in the evenings.
While Otto loves to spend time with all humans, he has limited patience for small children and other dogs, as he is put off by too much energy. Otto’s ideal household will be adults only or a family with older children (6 years plus), and no other dogs. Strictly no cats, he thinks cats look delicious.

Ottos new home will:
• Have no cats, small animals or pocket pets
• Have no children under 5
• Have an indoor space he can inhabit during the day with the option for him to go out and toilet whilst you’re at work if you’ll be gone 8 hours plus. If you’ll be gone less than 8 hours, he will be totally fine and content to just remain inside. He just wants to stay in his bed or on your bed, and has never had a toileting accident inside in the past 4 years we’ve had him
