Hi, I’m Casper.
As you can see, I’m an older gentleman of 8 years. But in no way have I slowed down yet! I am very active and outgoing; I love to greet people with my big smile and receive a good cuddle. My carers think in a home environment I will begin to mellow, and the shelter just makes me a little more on edge.
You don’t need to be a professional in dog handling to adopt me, though there may be some obstacles we need to overcome together through professional training. For instance, I do not enjoy the company or seeing other dogs. It really freaks me out! I know this is silly so I would love to work on that with my new owners. For this reason, I cannot go into dog parks or beaches, but I would be perfectly happy walking around in a quieter area.
I’m very attached to humans; I really love affection so it would be great if I could come inside when my owners are home. I would be suitable for an owner who works part-time, as I prefer not to be alone for too long. I would love children, but for their benefit it would be best if I went home with older children as I tend to jump into people with all my body weight.
I have been going well with my loose leash training here at the facility, I’m very engaged with my handlers when there’s food involved. I love snacks and sometimes forget that I have to be gentle. I already know sit and drop! Practice with me when you come to visit!
Medical notes
When one of our pets finds a new home, our team then book into the Council's contracted vet for them to be desexed (the next business day typically). We will transport your new furry family member to our vet for desexing in the morning. In the afternoon, you can then collect your furry friend from the vet following their procedure.
Adoption details
Please remember that the pets we have available sometimes come to us with no history, so we do our very best to get to know them while they are here and to match them to your home. Sometimes animals behave differently outside of the shelter environment, so please do keep in touch after adoption so that we can help you settle your new family member in and address any unexpected behaviours.
