About Leo
Say hi to the lovely Leo! Leo is a 2-year-old Kelpie / Koolie / German Shepherd Cross that is looking for his forever home.
This beautiful boy didn’t have the greatest start to life, being sold from a pet shop as a Chihuahua cross (yes, it is on his microchip) he quickly outgrew his inner-city apartment.
For the past six months Leo has been trying his hand at working as a conservation detection dog. Prior to that, he had a go at working livestock. But he didn’t quite show enough interest in either. This beautiful boy really is looking for a much simpler life. One where he can have his human(s) to himself, or maybe a sister to play with. Leo has been living with multiple dogs, but we feel just one companion won’t overwhelm him.
Leo is SUPER smart and loves training and learning new things. Although he doesn’t want the commitment of a full-time job, he would be an excellent teammate for someone interested in scent games or trick training / obedience training. He knows recall, sit, side, drop, wait, stop, shake and is keen to learn many more tricks. He picks up any new tricks very, very quickly. He’s had a lot of training in scent detection work, and we think would still really enjoy this as a hobby. Leo is also good around livestock and horses so would suit a hobby farm home environment.
Due to Leo’s start in life, he does get worried when left alone and can be quite vocal (the German Shepherd is strong in this young man). For the past six months his anxiety around being left alone has improved so much, but he will absolutely want a human who’s side he can be by and not to be left alone. He’s not a needy dog and quite likes his own space but does still need the company of a human.
He’s good in new environments and makes a great café/ winery dog. As long as Leo has a human beside him, he’ll just lie under the table and wait patiently. He also loves swimming and fetching in the water. His favourite toy is a tug toy and he always enjoys a plush toy to chew on or just parade around in his mouth. At home, Leo house trained and is keen to sunbathe, so he appreciates a good dog bed outside to laze around on. But it is important to know he will bark at any stranger danger outside.
If you can offer Leo the support of a fairly chilled life, this gorgeous boy would make someone a truly wonderful and loving best friend
