About Marcus
Kirby and Marcus
Kirby and Marcus are 9 year old (born January 2014) Cornish Rex cats looking for a forever home together.
Hi there, we are Kirby (the tabby) and Marcus (the lilac) and we were rescued by our Mum in 2016. We were the bestest of boys for her, but sadly she has passed away. While we have been living with our human sister since Mum passed, it can’t be our permanent digs. We are great mates so our forever home must be together.
A little bit about us, the good and the dastardly...
We are super affectionate. To anyone. If you want the sort of cat that gives your visitors the evil eye, loving only you and making you feel like the king or queen of your castle, then we are not for you. However, if you want your visitors to be welcomed with nose bops, cuddles on their lap, and perhaps a little bit of charming thievery (more on that later), then we are your guys. We do not hide under the bed when visitors arrive - we hold a two-cat welcome parade with drums and trumpets!
We are impossible to keep off furniture. If we can reach it, we will be on it, and we can reach everything. If it’s important to you that cats aren’t on the lounge, or the kitchen counter, or the top of your wardrobe, then we will send you bonkers. Because we are active and very inquisitive. We will rifle through your bags, and your guests’ bags. We might even steal some stuff. That’s the thievery we mentioned before. We like shiny things. But who doesn’t?
Our fur feels like velvet. And while we don’t lose anywhere near as much fur as other cats, we are not hypoallergenic. We lose very fine hair that can make its way up your nose and cause the sneezes. But we don’t lose much visible hair so your black cardigan or fabric lounge won’t be ruined by our fur. BUT, they might be ruined by our nails... because we’re cats!
We are great company and we will want to help you with everything. Unfortunately we aren’t all that helpful because of having no hands. But if you want a cat that leaves you alone, snoozes on the windowsill all day and bestows five minutes of love on you before bed, we aren’t for you. Because we want to be with you. Like always. And then a bit more. Oh, and about the bed, we expect to sleep on yours. Sometimes we even like to snuggle under the covers because our coats are very short and we get a bit cold.
So please don’t apply to adopt us unless you are truly ready to embrace the mantra of “my house has gone to the cats”. If you are that person, then you might be OUR person. And you are gonna LOVE us!
But don’t imagine we are all action and adventure; we are also lap cats. We like to be on the same lap at the same time. Sometimes we like to be on your lap when you aren’t even sitting.
What type of home are we looking for?
We must be inside cats. We are WAY too friendly, too trusting, and kind of daft about the road, to be outside cats. But we do love being outside in the sun so an enclosed cat run is a must. We are also up for small walks on a harness if you would like your neighbours to see how cool we are.
We would prefer to be only-pets. We are basically dogs rolled up in cat bodies so we don’t know why you’d want any other pet anyway? But we could live with a very well behaved small dog.
We are okay with visiting young children who have manners but we don’t want to live with them every day (who does?). But a visiting grandchild or two can be tolerated and we won’t hurt them. Older children who will give us love and attention are a-okay with us!
Our health…
We have recently had very thorough vet checks, worming, and vaccinations. Kirby is very healthy with years left to love you in. Markus has some health issues that will require occasional vet care and which may shorten his life. If you are interested in adopting us then our current carer can give you all the info.
We also both had juvenile gingivitis, a dental disease that went untreated by our first owner, so by the time Mum adopted us, we both had to have all but our four canine teeth removed. But this does not bother us at all, we just need our food cut up small and we happily chow down on dry food as well. Both of us had our remaining teeth recently checked and they are in excellent condition! So the upside is, we probably won’t need any dentals as we are very good at keeping our own four teeth clean!
We are both:
Desexed ✅
Vaccinated ✅
Wormed ✅
Full health check ✅
Are you our new family?
We have been very very loved by our mum, and our human siblings are now seeking the very best of homes for us. Unfortunately they all have dogs, other cats, and small children so moving in with them is not in our best interest. So please be prepared to answer questions about the type of home you can provide us.
Our adoption fee will be $200 for both of us, which will be donated to Fresh Start Rescue
If you would like to apply to adopt us, please email Jeanette on jdurante@bigpond.com to complete an application form.

This is in no way an obligation to adopt but simply gives us some more information about the home, family and lifestyle you have to offer a new pet.
As of 2017, Fresh Start Rescue are no longer placing dogs in homes with children under the age of 9 years old. We know this will frustrate many families looking to adopt, however for the safety of both those families and are beloved dogs, we have decided to put this measure into place.
