About Cola ^^Dandy Cat Rescue^^
🐱🐱 MEDIUM TO LONG-TERM FOSTER CARER NEEDED 🐱🐱
Cola is in need of a medium to long-term foster carer who has compassion for animals and wants to help a kitten in need.
Cola and her sister Sprite (also looking for a foster carer on Pet Rescue) were born completely normal but they developed a virus when they were 8 weeks old. The virus affected their mobility, and the girls were diagnosed with wobbly kitten syndrome* (see medical notes).
The condition has impacted Cola’s back legs but thankfully it is only very mild. She can run, play, jump and climb like normal kittens but she has a bit of a funny look to her walk on her back legs sometimes.
All it would mean for her care is that you need to look out for her when you walk, as she is not as fast to get out of your way as most kittens are.
The condition has fully stabilised and while she will never be free of it, Cola will not be any more impacted by it as she grows. Cola has adjusted really well and has no clue that she is any different to other kittens at all!
Cola is an exceptionally pretty, fluffy medium-hair kitten who also happens to be very loving. She has a wonderful nature and is sweet and very fond of people – of all ages!
Cola would be great in a family thinking of potentially adopting a cat or with a couple or single person. She loves human company and will curl up on your lap on the lounge and purr herself to sleep while you pat and cuddle her.
We are looking for a carer who can commit to fostering her for at least six months (including over Easter). The option to adopt is always available, however if you just want to foster her for a while that is fine too.
We will provide:
* all of her ongoing vet care (at our vet in Noble Park, so you will need the ability to transport her when required. This is not expected to be much, if at all, as she's had all her vet work done.)
* flea and worm tablets
You will need to provide:
* wet and dry food
* litter
* bedding and bowls etc.
Cola needs to be kept indoor-only at all times.
Cola has not been tested on dogs and we do not recommend she goes into foster care with a dog. She is great with older cats and would in easily, with the right slow and careful introduction over time of course (advice and support provided). She would also do well as an only kitty.
Cola needs a chance to spread her wings and take the next step in her young life. If you are interested in fostering her please email dandycatrescue@yahoo.com and we can chat some more about this lovely little girl.
Located in Hampton Park.
**Dandy Cat Rescue is a small rescue run by volunteers. We care for cats and kittens in our own homes. We will respond to your request just as soon as we possibly can and thank you for your patience.**
Medical notes
* There are many different forms of ataxia resulting in a wide variety of disabilities in cats and kittens.
Cerebellar ataxia (more commonly known as wobbly kitten syndrome) results in an unsteady gait in the legs and can sometimes cause head and torso shaking (neither Sprite nor Cola has this though!).
Cerebellar ataxia involves the part of the brain in charge of balance and coordination. It cannot be transmitted to other pets, is not infectious but there is no cure or medication available to correct it.
Cats with cerebellar ataxia are not in any pain and are typically unaware of the condition, and continue to live long and happy lives.
