Hi, I’m Chihuahua.
My name may be strange, but I do respond to it! I’m only a young guy but I have been in and out of shelters my whole life. I haven’t had the most consistent or stable start to life, but I’m hoping that changes soon as I’m beginning to lose faith...
I would be best suited in a home with a family who have owned staffy’s in the past. My general nature is boisterous and excitable, I sometimes jump up on my handlers but it’s quite easy to redirect me into a sit. I would be open to meet children who are 10+ years old. Like most dogs, I don’t enjoy being here at the facility. Seeing other dogs makes me quite stressed and anxious, and there is no shortage of dogs here.
I would love a home where I am the only animal. I crave to be the centre of attention and need to work on my manners at home before expanding my social abilities. I adore running around and doing zoomies, but when it’s time to train, I’ll have my game face on! I work best when there are minimal distractions surrounding me, so I have my full focus on my handler. Maybe after training and playing, I can come inside and sleep by your feet.
I would love a home with a yard and secure fencing to keep me safe and secure at all times. When we go on walks, I will need a secure collar and lead, or a slip lead. If you have treats on you, we can turn our walks into a fun training session. This will overall assist in building our trust and relationship, as well as making the walk more enjoyable. It would be best to avoid dogs when we are out and about. I cannot be in any off-lead areas.
I’m a bit of a work in progress, but I know I have it in me to be an amazing companion!
Medical notes
When one of our pets finds a new home, our team then book into the Council's contracted vet for them to be desexed (the next business day typically). We will transport your new furry family member to our vet for desexing in the morning. In the afternoon, you can then collect your furry friend from the vet following their procedure.
Adoption details
Please remember that the pets we have available sometimes come to us with no history, so we do our very best to get to know them while they are here and to match them to your home. Sometimes animals behave differently outside of the shelter environment, so please do keep in touch after adoption so that we can help you settle your new family member in and address any unexpected behaviours.
