Leroy - 6 Year Old Pug X Kelpie (On Trial)

Meet jolly Leroy, a calm, affectionate 6 year old Pug x Kelpie. He loves being around his humans, exploring all the smells of the world, getting his fur wet at the beach and, most of all, big belly scratches. You will usually find him relaxing on the couch (like the prince that he is), sunbaking or lying on the cool floor throughout the day, always sticking close to you for a convenient pat whenever you walk by.

He will fill you with laughter and love, making the funniest expressions and poses whenever you walk past. You will be greeted with a waggly tail and happy grunts as soon as you walk in the door before he rolls over for a belly scratch. Leroy hasn’t shown too much interest in his toys, but loves to be chased around the yard, and a little game of hide and seek will always get him excited.

Leroy has previously lived with young children and cats, so is child, cat, and pocket pet friendly. He also gets along well with other dogs and would love another small to medium dog around the house for company, although he would be very happy with some humans that were around more often than not to give him all their affection as well.

He’s an interesting mix of both breeds with short, pug sized legs and a long, Kelpie sized torso. He is a clever boy, well trained like a Kelpie but also shows some of that pug sass, which comes out strong when you start walking in a direction he is not happy with (i.e. towards home). The pug in him means he sheds a lot of fur, especially over the summer months, this can be decreased with regular brushes, but be prepared to give your vacuum a workout!

Leroy came into care overweight and a little unfit. While in care he has been working on his fitness like a champ and sticking to his diet without complaint. He is proving himself to be quite the active fellow, enjoying walks and beach adventures with his foster mum. He is still overweight, tipping the scales at a whopping 27 kgs, his new family will need to be committed to sticking to his diet and regular exercise so Leroy can be the happiest healthy boy.

Leroy does like to use his voice; he will bark to notify you of any people or dogs he has seen walking past. Over the past year Leroy has not had any socialisation or been out for a walk and is still getting used to being back out in the world. Because of this he will sometimes get over excited and barky when out on walks.

He also gets a little anxious when locked outside while you are leaving the house, which causes him to howl. This is likely due to his recent past and will hopefully not continue once he is settled in and feels secure in his new environment. If he has access to inside and outside the house, he will bark a few times when you are leaving, but settles quickly.

Leroy’s perfect home will:
- Allow him to be inside and outside as part of the family
- Be committed to keeping his diet and regular exercise
- Be fully fenced and secure
- Be ready to give Leroy all the love and affection he deserves

He is up to date with his vaccinations and vet checks, and ready to find a loving forever family!

Leroy is in foster care in the Newcastle West, NSW area. They are not currently available for interstate adoption. The adoption fee is $450.00 and they are desexed, vaccinated, treated for fleas and worms and microchipped.

This organisation's adoption policy is moderate. What does this mean?

(1) The first step is to fill in our online Adoption Questionnaire: https://tinyurl.com/drnadopt
(2) If the questionnaire is approved we will arrange a property check so we can verify that your home and yard are suitable for the pet you've applied for.
(3) After that we will arrange for you to meet the pet, usually at the foster carer's home, nearby park or your home.
(4) If both sides agree, then you can pay for and adopt your new family member! The two week trial begins on the day of adoption.
