About Gemma
Female Kelpie x Fox Terrier (Approx 1 year)
Gemma is a sweetheart who is affectionate, playful and gentle.
She is smaller than your average Kelpie, but does have personality traits of the breed such as intelligence, loyalty and devotion to her owner. Gemma has started basic command training, travels well in the car and is gentle with treats. She has taken to crate training well and sleeps through the night without a peep. She has wonderful manners inside, settling quickly and respecting boundaries once established.
Gemma is generally timid in new situations and requires a patient handler who will allow her time to adjust. She can be noise sensitive and will need a safe space to retreat if the atmosphere of a place is too chaotic. With gentle guidance and praise, it doesn't take long for her confidence to shine through. She has started lead training, is food motivated and eager to please.
Gemma has lovely manners when meeting new people. She does not tend to jump up, and will instead sit quietly to get a pat or a scratch on the belly. Gemma is submissive and respects the needs of other dogs. It isn't long until she wants to join in on play with others after she establishes that they are friendly. She is fine sharing toys, sleeping areas and meals. Gemma tends to be OK around her foster cat sibling. She has been tested around horses but not chickens.
Gemma would make a lovely offsider for someone in a rural area or surburbia. She would thrive as a sibling to a friendly second dog, but also would also be ok solo if her owner was home more often than not and willing to socialise her further.
Although she would be gentle with young children, her timid nature would be more suitable in a family with older kids, or empty nesters. Gemma would benefit from ongoing training and enrichment activities in order to keep her stimulated.
**Gemma is located in NSW...
