Lucy arrived at our sanctuary after being seen in an auction down in Victoria with her baby, Ollie, when he was only 10 weeks old. It was quite an ordeal to organise transport for the pair since they were both completely unhandled and utterly terrified of humans. After a lot of organising, we managed to drive down ourselves to pick them up.
Lucy and Ollie were both malnourished, riddled with worms and had never had any handling at all. We didn’t know much about them except that they were both Arabian horses that obviously no one wanted or cared about – until now!
Over the last 1.5 years, Lucy has really come out of her shell and is starting to really show us the sweet natured and gentle little mare that was hiding under all that fear. Lucy can be a bit wary when being caught, but if you offer her a little treat she will happily allow you to halter and lead her. She ties up well and is doing great for hoof trims so long as she has some reassurance that she isn’t going to be hurt. Lucy shows signs that she has fallen victim to some nasty humans in her time so can sometimes get a bit upset if you rush her, patience for Lucy is essential (and every horse to be honest).
In Lucy’s past she was only ever used for her uterus as a breeding machine so we are strictly rehoming her as a companion only horse, if you plan to breed from her please don’t apply. We want only the best for this tiny Arabian lady, her body is tired from always having a baby at foot and she needs somewhere that she will be loved and adored for the sweet girl she is and not for the ability to produce foals.
While being at the sanctuary, Lucy has only known positive reinforcement and a kind hand and she has really thrived. She could definitely do with some bonding time with her new humans doing walkies, grooming and even some ground training to continue to help her build her confidence.
Preference will be given to applicants who live close to the sanctuary in Kanimbla NSW so Lucy wouldn’t have to travel a long distance, however, for the perfect home we are happy to discuss adoptions interstate.
If you think you can offer Lucy the perfect forever home, please complete an application on our website, we would love to hear from you!
Please note: Some people have experienced an error with the form not being sent when clicking “submit” if this happens to you please email me at kate@elysianfieldssanctuary.com.au so I can double check it has been received.

Adoption details
After rehabilitation a profile is created of the animal to help find them the perfect match. Applicants can apply via my website using the application form. A house inspection (can be virtual) is required and then a visit can be arranged. If all goes well a two week trial in their new home begins, after completion of the two weeks the adoption will be finalised.
