About Oakley - 9 Week Old Border Collie x (On Trial)
Oakley is a 9 week old sweetheart who loves spending her day playing with her brother, running around the backyard, and cuddling on the lounge with her foster family at night.
She is one of 5 puppies that came into care with her brother and sister at 7 weeks. Oakley is the most energetic of the three pups and likes to be the leader (even though she is the smallest). She loves her food and is responding very well to basic training. Oakley is a pup that wants to please and looks to her foster family for praise and reassurance.
Oakley is cuteness overload but as with all puppies she likes to dig and chew/mouth anything that looks interesting, including hands and feet. A commitment to on-going training is essential to give her the best opportunity to grow into a well-mannered member of the family.
Being a puppy, she would benefit from having someone at home more than not. Oakley would also need to be welcomed inside whenever her family is home. After a transition period, she would be fine to be outside for short periods during the day if she has access to an undercover area and a cozy bed (and lots of chew toys). Oakley requires a secure backyard to play and release some of her puppy energy. She currently sleeps inside in a crate with her brother at night and would be fine to continue this in her new home.
Oakley will grow to be a medium sized dog. Due to her mix of breeds, she would benefit from being adopted by a family who has previous experience or knowledge of working breeds and understands the daily physical and mental demands of these breeds.
Although Oakley enjoys puppy play with her brother, she is not particularly interested in playing with her four-legged foster siblings. She is quite shy when meeting new dogs and therefore a meet and greet with any potential four legged siblings would be necessary before she can be adopted. Oakley is currently untested with cats and pocket pets.
For more information on Oakley, please contact her foster family on their email t.rhodes.drn@gmail.com. Oakley is in foster care in Gillieston Heights NSW. Oakley’s adoption fee is $700. As Oakley is not yet desexed, she is only available for adoption to Newcastle, Lake Macquarie, Central Coast and Port Stephens because she will need to be returned to a DRN approved vet for desexing when she is approximately 5-6 months old. Please NO out of area applications.
