About Ryder - 8 Week Old Border Collie X (On Trial)
** PLEASE READ CAREFULLY – ALL THE WAY TO THE END **
Arriving in care with 5 other siblings, Ryder was 7-6 weeks old. He is currently living with his sister and two resident dogs. Life is good for Ryder right now!
Ryder is playful and energetic (in short bursts) and slightly more chilled than his sister, but equally as cute. He makes happy little groans and squeaks that will melt your heart. He’s a lovely little guy who will snuggle in for a sleep and is happy to be nursed like a baby when he’s in in recharge mode.
While it’s very early days, he’s showing signs of being focussed and attentive for a pup of this age, and a quick learner. He has quickly adapted to doggy flap and is responding well to very basic commands. Within a couple of days at his current foster home, he’s made early steps towards toilet training. He seems to be very thoughtful and generally takes a few seconds to assess the situation before he dives in. He’s happy to shadow his sister around, letting her test the risk first (a smart guy!)
In his short life, Ryder has never been left home alone. After leaving mum and siblings he’s been entertained by bro and resident dogs. If he is to be the only dog in the household, it will take a transition period - and his humans will need to provide lots of playtime and interaction to replace the on-tap stimulation with his four-legged friends.
Being an active, working breed, Ryder will require lots of exercise and one-on-one play time with their forever human/s - as well as mental stimulation. A commitment to ongoing training will be essential to ensure his working dog traits are directed in a positive direction to avoid any unwanted behaviour during and beyond adolescence.
When fully grown, Ryder will require two decent exercise sessions every single day. For a working dog breed, this is non-negotiable.
Please consider Ryder’s suitability for your lifestyle and family before submitting an adoption application.
Ryder is not yet desexed, therefore he is only available for adoption in Newcastle, Lake Macquarie, Central Coast and Port Stephens because he will need to be returned to a DRN approved vet for desexing when approximately 5-6 months old. Out of area applications will not be considered.
To register your interest in adopting Ryder you can fill out the adoption questionnaire here https://tinyurl.com/drnadopt
PLEASE NOTE: When applying for our dogs and puppies, please ensure to list the name of the dog you wish to adopt. Please do NOT just list the reference number or the microchip number as this will delay your application reaching the correct foster carer.
You can see all our available dogs at www.dogrescuenewcastle.com.au or www.petrescue.com.au
Ryder is in foster care in the Mayfield, NSW area. They are not currently available for interstate adoption. The adoption fee is $700.00.
PLEASE NOTE: Dog Rescue Newcastle provides individual listings with specific requirements for each foster dog. If you submit an application or inquiry and DO NOT receive a response within 5 business days, please understand that you have not met the specific requirements for this dog. Please do not be disheartened or discouraged, this simply means you were not a suitable match at this time.
