About Oreo - 8 Week Old Border Collie X (On Trial)
** PLEASE READ CAREFULLY – ALL THE WAY TO THE END **
Oreo came into care at around 6-7 weeks as a puppy-party of 6. Sassy and uber-adorable, Oreo is adventurous and full of energy. Her sparkly eyes, petite nose and four white socks add to the overall cuteness.
She has a lovely balance of confidence - not too naughty but spicy enough to make her adorable. Her curious nature leads to lots of investigating, which often involves a little nibble/chew at things along the way. As with all pups, there’ll be plenty of digging, chewing and standard puppy behaviour to deal with before she matures.
While very playful and active, she is relatively calm for pups of this age. She goes from stealth mode to cuddle-bunny mode when it’s sleepy time. She will nestle into your lap and be sound asleep within seconds.
While she’s still only a baby, she is already demonstrating some cleverness and cunning. A recent introduction to lead walking was better than average for a first timer, but she’ll still needs lots of practise.
Being an active, working breed, she will require lots of exercise and one-on-one play time with their forever family in addition to mental stimulation. A commitment to ongoing training will be essential to ensure her working dog traits are directed in a positive direction to avoid any unwanted behaviour during and beyond adolescence.
She is loving life in her temporary foster home. It’s like a doggy sleep over party with her bro and two fully-grown resident dogs (fortunately, the resident dogs have loads of tolerance!).
Until recently, Oreo was one of 6 pups (plus mum) and now she has the company 3x pals. It will be a smoother transition if she has a puppy-tolerant, four-legged house mate; otherwise, she’ll need to become accustomed to being the only dog. Being a very social girl, she will dislike being left alone even for short periods. A plan to mitigate this would be welcome if you’re planning to submit an adoption application for Oreo.
At the moment life is all about eat, sleep, play, poo/pee, repeat. But when fully grown, Oreo will require two decent exercise sessions every single day. For a working dog breed, this is non-negotiable.
Oreo’s perfect forever home will be with someone who is familiar with Kelpie/BC breed who leads a very active lifestyle (which includes Oreo), and who can commit 110% to her ongoing needs for life.
Please consider Oreo’s suitability for your lifestyle and family before submitting an adoption application.
Oreo is not yet desexed, therefore she is only available for adoption to Newcastle, Lake Macquarie, Central Coast and Port Stephens because she will need to be returned to a DRN approved vet for desexing when approximately 5-6 months old. Out of area applications will not be considered.
