About Tomato - Fostered In Perth
Tomato came to us as a semi-feral mum cat... or so we thought. He was taking care of a litter of kittens when he was found but alas, Mr. Tomato was not their mum. Tomato has not lost his nurturing nature and continues to love looking after and caring for other cats and kittens, but he has lost his feral nature. He is now a big smooch, who loves to groom and snuggle up with the new foster kittens and other cats at his foster home.
Tomato also likes to play - his favorite toy is a long ginger dangly toy that looks just like his tail or a fluttering butterfly toy that totally mystifies him! He also loves toy mice and will throw them up and try to catch them. He is very cute to watch play as he is very slow and a bit uncoordinated (no idea how he survived on the streets!)
Tomato absolutely loves pats and will chase you around the house chirping for them, he will oven jump up to knock against your hand first. His favorite pats are neck pats or full body pats. He is still getting used to the idea of being held - he usually just hops away or flomps to the ground if he suspects an attempt is being made to pick him up. But he is getting more used to the idea.
Tomato has lived with other cats before - and he loves them! Just make sure they are prepared for all the grooming and snuggling that they will receive as Tomato will mother any cat that will let him. He has also lived with other big, crazy dogs before and although he was initially quite hissy, he was introduced slowly, and has had absolutely no issues with them, and will even try to groom them at times.
He has not met children before; however, he would only suit a household with older, calm children that know how to handle cats and can read their body language well.
While adopting Tomato will not be an immediately easy adoption, it will be a rewarding adoption. Watching Tomato learn to trust me as his foster carer and go from a hissy swipey semi-feral cat to a playful, loving and nurturing cat has been such a joy. Tomato still has many more firsts - his first time on a lap, his first time being cuddled in your arms, but these are all in his future and will be what makes adopting Tomato so special. He has come leaps and bounds since he came into SAFE's care and will only continue to flourish with love and patience.
