About Lucky
Hi! I'm Lucky! I got my name because I successfully recovered from a more complicated than usual desex surgery AND 2 fractures in my pelvis. The vet doesn't anticipate any issues going forward. I've proven that no matter what life throws at me, I'm a smart, resourceful and resilient pup--able to adapt, improvise and overcome :)
Even though I'm not a tiny pup, I missed out on all the training I should have gotten then, so be prepared to 'start from scratch' with me. The good news though is that I'm already toilet trained, know how to use a dog door, and can be left alone indoors for several hours at a time. I'm new to crate training and tethering, but improving slowly. Even though I came into care severely underweight, I'm not especially food driven, but I DO like the interactive and/or chewy toys that have food in them. The whole concept of toys is still quite new to me though, and I'm just now exploring and figuring out what to do with them and which ones I like.
I'm dog and cat-friendly, but still a bit 'mouthy' so not suited to a family with kids under 10. I'm actually more than just 'dog-friendly'--I LOVE dogs of all shapes and sizes and am really good at 'reading' them. If they tell me off for being too friendly I take the message well and back off. I'm pretty good walking on a lead but I still pull when there are dogs I want to meet.
My carers say my only downside right now is that if I'm left alone and unsupervised outside for too long I may entertain myself by digging holes in the lawn. But if you spent time training me every day I'm going to be the most amazing dog. Teach me the commands of sit, stay, come, down, no, stop and leave it, and make me practice every day. That way I'll learn to obey what you tell me to do. Being consistent and clear with your boundaries will mean I always know the right way to behave. Getting out to exercise at least once a day (preferably twice) is vital to stimulate my brain and body. It creates important opportunities for me to meet strangers, other dogs and other animals, plus it tires me out! Tell me ""no"" if I'm chewing something I shouldn't and give me a chew toy instead. I'd love to have a range of chew toys that you can swap around so I don't get bored with them. I've met two dog-trainers that help SAFE out (and their dog 'packs') and they say I'm a brilliant dog with 'great genetics'. I've had a tough time so far, but 2023 is looking good and I'm ready to start my 'new life'. Are you the one that can help me with that?
