Tammy is the sweetest, most gentle and quiet girl, who is looking for just one special person to snuggle with on the couch each night.
This special little girl will need time and patience to build trust with her new family
She is a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel x weighing 12 kilos but is a bit overweight
Tammy has been with us many months after being a very over bred girl
We feel she was a puppy farm mum and had little to no human contact and was just locked up and bred with most of her life.
This has resulted in Tammy still not understanding how to be a “dog” and how to show happiness and affection, slowly but surely over the months in care Tammy little by little is allowing herself to gain a little bit of trust with her female carer and this will take a long time for her new family to gain her trust so this must be a consideration before applying
Tammy is a timid girl, and will take a while to warm to and trust any new people. She is extremely gentle, and will prefer to just hide away in a corner if she is scared or unsure, but has never shown any aggression whatsoever. We suspect she has had a bad experience with a man in the past, as she feels inhibited around her foster dad and prefers to keep a distance most of the time. She has bonded with her foster mum though, and likes to snuggle on the couch together in the evening. For this reason, Tammy is best suited to a single female or multiple female home only
Tammy doesn’t appear familiar with the usual sit/drop/shake etc, but is very well behaved so it hasn’t been an issue at all. She enjoys a gentle walk most days, and walks very well on the lead and doesn’t pull at all. She will become a little skittish if she’s in a busy area with lots of people or other animals, and not want to continue. She travels quite well in the car but may try to sit with you at first, or at your feet. Once she relaxes she’s fine.
Tammy hasn’t shown interest in interacting with other animals. She doesn’t stop and say hello to other dogs but just appears wary of them, so will give a wide berth when passing. She doesn’t bark at them at all, in fact, we’ve only ever heard her bark once! She shows no interest in cats or birds either.

Tammy eats a mix of wet and dry food once a day. She has been a bit fussy with both, but seems to like kangaroo meat, and wouldn’t eat her dry food at first but now she is happy to eat it. She doesn’t get excited for dinner like most dogs, and will leave it sitting there until she’s ready, or will sometimes come and eat if called over to it, although this has taken some time. She didn’t eat for the first couple of days in her new foster home and in the first couple of weeks would still have a day here and there where she wouldn’t eat. She would also usually leave her dinner and eat it in the middle of the night. Tammy was quite overweight when she first arrived into foster care, but with a controlled diet is now a much healthier weight.

Tammy once chewed a nail file that was left lying around, but this has been the only destructive behavior she has shown. She is very well behaved. She spends most of her day in one of her beds, which she likes to have in cozy corners and nooks. She also has a little semi enclosed cat bed/dome that she likes to spend time in as well. Tammy likes to be in enclosed spaces and will often hide under tables or chairs and in corners. Even on the couch she will sometimes try to squish behind you or between you and the arm of the couch. She is quite independent and likes to spend alone time in one of her safe spaces, but will also like to spend time snuggling on the couch, usually in the evening, often with her head resting on her foster mum’s leg. Tammy doesn’t get overly excited about things, and doesn’t play with any toys. She doesn’t jump up on people either. Once she has bonded with you, she will at times like to be in the same area of the house as you, but not all up in your face. She will often just sit nearby and watch.

Tammy has been bathed in the shower with a hand hose, and whilst she didn’t particularly enjoy the experience, she was very well behaved and tolerated being washed. She has a short sleek coat, but will need regular brushing as she does shed a bit. She is happy enough to be brushed and will just sit there.

Tammy sleeps upstairs in one of her beds or on the couch. Her first couple of mornings in foster care she cried briefly when she woke in the morning. She was fine after receiving some pats, and it hasn’t happened since. She is a snorer at times and sounds like a little piggy! Tammy would be happy to sleep on your bed with you too.
Tammy doesn’t need much exercise, just a gentle half hour walk most days. She walks at a comfortable moderate pace and doesn’t pull. She’s happy just to snooze and lounge around the rest of the time.

Tammy came into foster care fully toilet trained, and we haven’t had a single accident inside. A sliding door is left open for her most of the time so she can take herself out. We have only ever seen her toilet two or three times – she prefers to do it when no one is around, usually in the night. Tammy is very quiet and we have only ever heard her bark once for a couple of seconds. She is very well behaved in the house. Tammy was used for breeding by her previous owners and has obviously had many litters, and we don’t know what else she has experienced but she is very timid in new situations or with new people, and also doesn’t like loud noises or banging – even jumping up to catch a mosquito will cause her to quickly retreat and hide. However, she is so incredibly sweet and good natured and gentle.

Tammy is best suited to living with a single female, in a quiet and gentle home. She would be perfect for someone who would like a low maintenance, snuggly little companion that also likes some alone time. Someone who is patient and understands that Tammy will take some time to bond and build trust with you. Someone who likes to go for nice easy walks, and who would like a dog that isn’t jumpy and always getting under your feet. Someone who doesn’t have too many visitors to the home, especially grandchildren etc, as this would scare Tammy. Tammy is such a lovely girl, and we want to find the perfect person for her.
We are seeking a home with no other dogs as we feel Tammy need to be allowed the time to bond into her new home with a quiet and relaxed environment
