About Dobermann - Sachsen ('Saxon')
Sachsen, the meaning of Saxony, is kind and sweet, tolerant, friendly and expressive, and lives up to his placename, the birthplace of the Dobermann breed.
Sachsen is bilingual in German and English, friendly towards little and big dogs and cats, and loves to be near his human friends; he is a big goofy boy who needs a home where love is abundant with active people who are keen to take him with them.
Sachsen has learned a great deal since arriving in care, and today is a great day for him. With an early morning walk and cool indoor activities in this hot weather, he sees all of life's moments with joy. He loves a good cuddle, is super affectionate, and his cuddles are real!
He's crate trained and has obedience under his belt, which must continue in his new home. Have you experienced dog obedience training before?
Sachs is working on his wait commands and is eager to respond to treats training at home and outside the house. A ball on a rope is his favourite, and ball games and techniques are included in his support and adoption booklet for his continued development.
Sachs enjoys interactive food hunting in our grassy areas, safely wrapped food treat packages he needs to 'unwrap' supervised, and working for his food. Following and responding to commands (found in his development booklet) are a big part of his day. Can you provide Sachs with his current program at home, offering him enrichment and companionship?
Sachs enjoys outside when you're there, too; a fully shaded area is a must for a black Dobermann, with plenty of daily fresh water and outside toys to explore. He can manage himself but has not had the best start to life and will rely on someone who is home most of the day to continue developing into a confident young male.
He loves female Dobermanns or large breeds who are patient and can offer companionship rather than be alone unless you work from home and can provide him with companionship. Like other Dobermanns with us, Sachs's bliss is being inside and comes into his own when faced with fluffy beds, cool air and friendship.
While Sachs has not lived with children in his short time on earth, we won't be considering homes with children under ten years old who do not have large breed experience.
He's a big boy whos not quite used to his size and can be 'gangly' and uncoordinated and yet exceptionally happy all at the same time! Homes with children under 10 with large breed experience inside and outside your home will be welcome and seriously considered.
Sachs wears his heart on his sleeve and needs a confident home to help him to continue enjoying the routine he so loves as his impulse control is late in development, but he's fast to pick it up; it is delightful to be around a boy with such joy in his heart.
Are you a competent dog handler? Are you keen to join a local obedience club? Sachs has an aptitude for obedience with the benefits of socialization in a controlled dynamic. For him to continue being challenged in different scenarios and situations, perhaps you have friends with large-breed dogs who would enjoy a new mate to hang out with. Great for his development, health and well-being.^^
^^ We use pack theory as a part of our internal structure; it is essential to understand this and put it into practice with Dobermanns, provided in our Adoption Booklet.
Time and home structure are essential for all developing Dobermanns; sleeping, resting and growing are best supported by our nutritional approach to his diet and health development. Can you provide Sachs with fresh raw food and quiet spaces to rest and grow?
Always lovely and affectionate, he'll be perfect for you if you're in an active home and would love to experience the breed and why they're so popular. Large breed experience is necessary.

Adoption details
We have an adoption process which refers to the questions in each Dobermann's profile.
The questions will help you understand each Dobermann's need across the areas of care of importance whilst in care with us and for their ongoing maintenance in your home.
After considering these against your work, family and lifestyle schedule, please message us via PetRescue Messaging; we'd love to hear from you.
Our process is straightforward.
We follow up on your PetRescue message with a phone call appointment (scheduled) to discuss your interest and build a working relationship with you.
We look forward to highlighting your Dobermann of interest and can present other Dobermanns who may be a more suitable fit.
A follow-up phone call/video call to answer your questions (usually after 5 pm on weekdays or by arrangement on weekends) after you've had time to consider all Dobermanns.
Our selection criteria are clear and transparent.
We will do a home check before we approve the adoption and further communications via phone call/facetime to finalise any outstanding questions you or we may have.
A veterinary referee or a professional referee is needed.
We will ask for your vet's name and contact details as a reference, plus other supporting documents, including rental housing approval at your current address from your leasing agent or landlord for a large breed dog.
Once we approve the adoption, the adoption fee, associated documentation and adoption contract are finalised, ownership transfer is forwarded to you and supporting veterinary records are sent to your vet.
Our commitment.
We remain supportive and accessible to you and your Dobermann under the adoption program, with open, transparent, practical support and solutions when you need us.
