About Cooper - 6 Month Old Chihuahua X (On Trial)
Sweet, bouncy, happy little Cooper says 'Hello!'
This puppy is a long haired Chihuahua X Shih Tzu mix. He’s 6 months old and pretty much fully grown, weighing just 5kg. He’s bigger than most Chihuahuas' and has a beautiful honey blonde coat. He will look like a puppy forever!
While Chihuahuas have a bad rap for being a bit cranky, that’s not Cooper at all. Cooper is a fun-time kind of guy. He loves people of all ages. He loves to romp with other dogs but can get nervous around the big guys. He loves his food (yes vegies too) and has learned to sit and wait for his meals. He enjoys car rides. He loves cuddles whenever you’re available.
Cooper is in foster care with an older couple and another foster dog. We are home most of the time, and would prefer it if Cooper’s new home had someone home most of the time too. Cooper would like a smallish fur sibling for fun company. He really would like an active household, perhaps with a young family. He would love to be involved with the daily comings and goings – he loves to be busy. He can get silly, stealing socks and bath mats, trying to entice you to chase him but he doesn’t chew on anything much and he will return the stolen goods….eventually. He enjoys tug toys as long as you play too (gently of course) but has not yet figured out ball chasing.
He would love to go for regular outings but Cooper has only just been vaccinated and desexed and given a clean bill of health. He has not had much lead training but he is a quick learner. He has nearly mastered toilet training 101. You can expect some accidents initially but once he knows where he can go, he will be sorted.
While his small size makes him ideal for an older person, Cooper can get under your feet sometimes and could become a trip hazard. He will get bored if left outside alone, and being little, he will easily find every possible escape route, heading off to look for company. Cooper will need a secure yard.
Cooper’s preferences:
- Allowed inside and outside during the day.
- Sleeping inside only (he likes to be touching someone when he goes to sleep at night)
- Secure yard (he’s small and social and will find the tiny gaps if he gets lonely)
- Family members (prefer children aged over 5)
- Fur sibling (not too big please)
- Ongoing training (he is smart and does need to exercise his mind as well as his body)
To register your interest in adopting Cooper you can fill out the adoption questionnaire here https://tinyurl.com/drnadopt
PLEASE NOTE: When applying for our dogs and puppies, please ensure to list the name of the dog you wish to adopt. Please do NOT just list the reference number or the microchip number as this will delay your application reaching the correct foster carer.

PLEASE NOTE: Dog Rescue Newcastle provides individual listings with specific requirements for each foster dog. If you submit an application or inquiry and DO NOT receive a response within 5 business days, please understand that you have not met the specific requirements for this dog. Please do not be disheartened or discouraged, this simply means you were not a suitable match at this time.
