Denzel *On Trial*

*denzel is currently trialling his new home* thrown from a moving car little denzel was lucky to be spotted by a good samaritan and handed over to sarg’s very special kitten carer who rushed him to the vets where they treated his facial injuries, broken teeth and a sore leg then sent him home though not before they discovered denzel was most probably born deaf. As you can see from his photos his wounds are healing and surprisingly enough he hasn’t lost his faith in humanity – his carer reckons he’s the smoochiest kitten she’s ever had in foster care and believe us when we say she’s looked after lots!

denzel is a very happy and friendly little guy and even though he’s deaf he’s just like any other kitten who loves to play and have a snuggle on his carers lap. The other sarg kittens in care play a new game with denzel called “hiss-chasey” where they sneak up on him, tap him on the bum so he gets a fright and hisses at them and then he chases them around the house, all in good clean fun of course!

deaf kittens are like all other kittens - they can learn just as quick through your body language. Of course denzel won't come when called, but perhaps you can teach him that when you shake his dry food and stomp on the floor, that it's dinner time - he can feel the vibrations. You have to remember that cats don't really know what we're saying when we talk to them anyway, they notice different pitches in our tone that tell them what we mean. Denzel can learn from your expressions and body language that when you're mad, you put your hands on your hips. . . . . . Or when it's time to eat, you put your hand to your mouth and so on and so forth. Being deaf denzel will need to always be an inside cat for his own safety. He has already picked up litter training and is learning to use the scratching post – he’s a very bright little kitten indeed!
