About Cleo
PLEASE NOTE THAT UNFORTUNATELY WE ARE UNABLE TO FLY OUR ANIMALS EITHER WITHIN WA OR INTERSTATE
NAME: Cleo
BEFORE SAFE ESPERANCE: Came to SAFE Esperance from the pound. Cleo hasn't had the best start in life so we're looking for a special someone to show her that the world really isn't the scary place that she's experienced so far.
BREED: Shar Pei x
Shar Pei Breed Traits: originally bred to guard, hunt, herd and fight the Shar Pei is now a companion dog. A calm, independent thinker, sometimes aloof he is a good watch dog and guard dog and devoted to his family. Early training is essential to counter his stubborn strong will and socialisation with humans and dogs must begin early. Due to his short nose he is prone to overheating so needs to be an inside dog.
**********************************************************************************************
ASSETS: Cleo is initially very shy and fearful but once she's comfortable, she's friendly, sweet and playful. She came into foster care with a fear of almost everything, especially humans, but is coming along in leaps and bounds and her confidence is growing by the day
.
FAVOURITE THINGS: Cleo loves to play fetch and tug of war with her rope toy and interact with the other dogs in her foster home. She also enjoys cuddle time on the couch with her person.
ENDEARING FEATURES: She will be a loyal, loving companion to the person who will take the time to earn her trust. She's a smart cookie and is quick to learn new things so training should be a breeze once she's comfortable in her new home.
OTHER ANIMALS: She gets on well with other friendly dogs and would thrive so much more with another youngish dog to play with in her new home, this will aid in her growth and confidence. She is untested with other small animals, but we have been told that she lived with cats when very young so this may be possible with slow careful introduction.
GENERAL INFO: Cleo will need training on a lead/harness as she has been too timid to venture out for walks so far. Her housetraining is coming along well but expect some accidents while she's getting the hang of things. She will bark to get attention and doesn't like to be left alone. She's doing great with her command training and is very obedient. Cleo has also been crate trained which gives her a quiet safe space to relax and chill.
ESSENTIALS for Cleo
:
** a loving home where someone is there more often than not especially in the first six months after adoption
** a calm home where Cleo is given time to settle and adjust in her own time, she needs to learn to trust so patience is essential
** a home where Cleo is treated as part of the family and is allowed to be inside or out as she needs and to sleep inside at night
** a decent sized garden where she can run, play, sniff and explore
** once settled attendance at group training where she can learn and grow confidence with gentle exposure is strongly recommended
**once used to being walked on lead she would enjoy daily walks outside the home
Cleo could live with dog-savvy gentle children over 12 years of age who understand her initial fear and give her space but will play and interact with her once she's more settled in her new home.
