On Hold
About Jake - 13 year young loveable ball of energy!
Jake is a super friendly guy who is looking for a wonderful home to see out his retirement. If you love Jack Russells this little man is such a delight, he just wants to love and be loved.
Despite being 13 Jake has the energy of a puppy and still loves a good run around the yard, with or without a toy, and a daily walk! He loves people whether he knows them or not, and is the perfect little dog for a retiree who likes to meet with friends and enjoy a walk together. He's a typical JRT though - a touch of Small Man Syndrome brings out a bit of yappiness on lead - but if you're used to that in the breed it won't bother you and is more than manageable in Jake.
He's an affectionate little guy who loves to be patted, picked up and cuddled by his people, and would adore falling asleep on your lap of an evening. He's a wonderful companion dog and lap dog so is perfect for an older person looking for the company of a little doggo :)
* Jake was surrendered with his lifelong mate, Zack, a 13 year old Pomeranian. Initially the stress of losing their adored hoomans to a nursing home brought out some grumpiness in Jake and we had them separated though within the same foster home. We are currently assessing whether they still need to be separated so could possibly be rehomed together if that's of interest to you, however either would be find to be adopted alone. Please text Jo on 0419 124 437 to discuss adopting Jake either with or without little Zack :)
Medical notes
Jake's health has been assessed by a vet as the following:
1. Teeth - Needs a dental clean and some teeth extractions. This is happening the week of 27.2.23 so he will be available for adoption after that.
2. Toe nails - It appears Jake has had a past issue with his nails, possibly not being cut in his past home as. Vet has suggested they be kept short.
3. Coughing - Jake's heart and lungs sound good and there was no coughing at the vet during his checkup. clinic. Vet suspects something related to the trachea, xrays have been booked for the week of 27/2/23 to look into this.
4. Small lump on hind leg - Looks like a skin tag. Can be removed while he's under anesthetic for the dental but doesn't look like it is bothering him.
5. Stiffness in the back and hips - the vet suggested a course of Cartrophen injections which we will pay for and can start after his dental surgery the week of 27/2/23.
6. Scars on snout - these appear to be from some past dust ups with his brothers. They don't bother him.
7. No other known health issues at this point but we will update this section if anything is found at his dental surgery and xray appointment the week of 27/2/23

Adoption details
💕💕💕💕💕
Sunny Days is a registered charity, foster care network and private shelter, focusing on the rescue, rehab and rehoming of cats who've never had experience with humans, and of dogs who may not have been given a chance by others. You can support us by clicking the pink DONATE button on this page or further options at the bottom of this section. Thankyou!
💕 ABOUT OUR WORK WITH DOGS:
We take in dogs from community surrenders, owned arranged euthanasia's which vets have intervened on, and greyhounds retired from or not suitable for racing. Most of our dogs are with us for extended periods to ensure we know them really well before putting them up for adoption, and have been assessed by professional dog trainers if not worked with extensively. We provide full discretion with adopters about dogs' health and behaviour and ongoing support to integrate adopted dogs into new homes, families and lifestyles. The success and longevity of our dogs' adoptions is very important to us.
💕 ABOUT OUR WORK WITH CATS:
We run a donation funded shelter in semi-rural Avalon, that was previously used for dog breeding. When we took ownership of the property, our hard working volunteers spent many months transforming the building into a bright and colourful environment featuring 7 large, fully enclosed pens capable of housing 8 wild-born cats. We take in full cat colonies, pregnant and nursing mothers, ophan kittens, FIV positive cats, and sick or injured cats. Cats are humanely trapped after being identified as un-owned; we don't take in domesticated cats and have extensive processes to ensure cats trapped are true strays as opposed to owned. We don't give cats deadlines to be socialised by or they'll be euthanised, we provide sanctuary for them for as long as they need.
💕 CAN YOU HELP US?
As a small team without government or corporate funding, our services are in constant demand and our resources stretched. You can donate directly to the animal in this profile by clicking the pink DONATE button on this page, or contact us if you'd like to sponsor a street cat's rehab and housing which usually takes one year minimum but more often longer.
